I have used H&R Block for personal income tax for more than 10 years. While there are frequently minor bugs they are usually not too bad. This year was the worst. Two major problems that H&R Block must have been aware of. 1) Several printing bugs (at least on a Mac): a) the program changes the printing scale. I had to call the company for a complicated fix. They knew about the problem and were great at walking me through it. b) when you e-file federal and then want to print forms, either state or federal, it places a water-mark "not for filing" in the upper right. Again support helped me solve this. It took about 20 minutes for them to figure it out and get back to me, but they were super-courteous and helpful. But these are two printing bugs. 2) the other major bug was that the program would frequently quit after I entered data during the interview. I had to save after every single data entry to prevent losing my work. This happened throughout the interview and while trying to e-file. I had to restart the program 4 times while e-filing because of this bug. This is terrible. Finally, it is annoying to purchase a state program and then be told I have to download one of the state forms and fill it in myself. Why buy a program if I have to fill in the forms myself? The state software ought to have the forms you need to file.
I had imported stock sales that had about 300 entries, had to review each transaction, the program would take about 20 seconds to process each time I hit enter to confirm the entry, complaints went unheard
software does not support carryover from IRA withdrawals from covid. when taxable amount gets spread over 3 years. had to use turbo tax. i had been a customer for 12 years
Little errors by HRB (such as estimated taxes in Massachusetts must be paid before 12/31/22 is incorrect. I filed on 15th of January as Massachusetts allows) causes time consuming delay.
