Much Easier

After having used TurboTax for last 20 years, we decided to use H&R block program. There was apprehension that it would be harder and I would have to buy TurboTax to finish it.
It was a pleasant surprise that it was user friendly and much easier throughout the process!

I switched from turbo tax years ago after they removed functionality and increased prices. I never regret this decision.

A Little Buggy This Year

This year was the first time I had issues with software bugs. Accuracy check would come back different every time, no option to pick United States as my home country, etc.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

State software problem

Pennsylvania State requires separation of Spouse & Taxpayer income in tax filing.
When Printing for filing: only one copy of Schedule A for “taxpayer” & one copy of Schedule B for “Spouse” is printed but not both.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

Good Basics, Some Software Issues

Did not properly handle (or explain) how to deal with figuring average mortgage balance in the case where a mortgage is sold during the year. This results in two 1098 forms received, but there is no good explanation on how to handle this. It appears the software assumes you have two separate mortgages - ughhh!
Secondly, on the Mac version anyway, trying to do a program update from within the application is completely messed up - it just goes around in circles and never does the update. After speaking with their help desk it was determined the best route to go is to go to their web site and download updates from there. Someone in their software development team needs a refresher course in testing before releasing an application.
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
