Why was I prompted to buy and download software?!?

I have prepared my taxes online with H&R block in 2021 and 2022. I experienced issues accessing my 2022 tax info which couldn't be resolved. I completed the entire Federal form for Federal and when moving to State, I was prompted to buy a package to continue. I didn't realize it was to purchase and download software for tax prep. I thought I needed it to complete my taxes. I had to re-enter everything!! Then I paid more to complete or file State. After completing and submitting my Federal and State taxes, I found the original site still open. Grrr! It says I haven't completed my tax prep and need to continue to complete! I feel like I was scammed into purchasing the Software that I didn't really need. I will be using another tax prep resource next year.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents

I have used the H&R Block tax software for thirteen years and have never had a problem. I used to get the Premium + State when I had a home business, and now I use Deluxe + State filing the Federal and two state returns, one a Non-resident return.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

I bought the deluxe software which boasts 5 free federal returns but you charge a service fee if I pay my taxes with a credit card. A total rip-off. I will use another software next time.

Does what it supposed to. Help section is very basic. End up having to got IRS website, which is not much more helpful. Would be nice if it compared last years and this years items to say hey last year you had this item. Did you miss it this year or just not relevant this year.
