I've enjoyed using the HR Block tax preparation software for many years with few issues or concerns. This year, frustrated by several items. It kept referring to the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), and very simply it should have noted by my age I want old enough to be subject to RMD, as I'm under 70 years of age. No matter what I did, it kept saying, are you taking your RMD! Also it made it terribly complex for the underpayment portion of calculating the penalty. As a retiree, between pension and social security I'm usually have an underpayment situation, but don't make it ridiculous to figure. Another item is it assumes with a 1099-NEC, I have a business - I don't.
Cons: Hard to prepare

The basic product is good however, when dealing with a lot of investments, stock trades, it’s a little difficult to get through it. When you import, you have to go through every single line item when you have ion excess of 700 it becomes very time-consuming.
Pros: Easy to import documents

I have used HR Block since 2019. It has glitches. In tax year 2023, for some investment filings, it tells me to 'go see my tax accountant'. In the State package (MD), there are a few incomprehensible questions, I just have to guess. I am just a simple retired guy. I'll be looking for a better tax app in year 2024. PS: I have fought the Nickname box for 15 minutes now, geez.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
