Moved to NY during the year. Needed to file a part year resident NY State form, including NYC taxes. The basics of the State form were fine, but anything to do with part year resident and NYC part time resident required a lot of "click the whole form" and manually entering numbers. At least one repopulated number was incorrect and had to be overwritten. No reasonable Help in the State form. I had to find the state instructions to complete.
No issues with the Federal taxes.

Multiple Problems Experienced with 2023 Tax Return

I usually have no issues with using H&R Block tax software. But that was not the case for my 2023 taxes. For my state of Maryland tax return, the software would not allow me to enter 4th quarter estimated state taxes if paid after 12-31-2023 even though the established due date is 01-15-2024. I guess I should have backdated the payment by two weeks. But I shouldn’t have had to. I am going to have to file an amended state return to get back the over $900 I am owed due to the error in the tax software. Also, changing the type of SF 1099 resulted in total tax owed from a Federal tax refund of $1,000 to owing over $8,000. I cannot imagine why a minor change would result in that much of a tax increase. It seems to be another software glitch, and makes me wonder if I can trust H&R Block tax software going forward.

Cons: Hard to prepare
