I have been using your home taxcut product for many many years and was a loyal fan. The outage you experienced on the last day or two of tax season really caused me issues and anxiety. I will finally be trying TurboTax next year for the first time. The return actually submitted to the IRS during the outage but my software thinks it did not. I am stuck with that on my laptop to deal with next year. Hopefully TurboTax will import the data file and I can start fresh with a company that did not crash at the tax deadline. I have many friends and coworkers who told me to switch over to TurboTax and I remained a loyal TaxCut fan. I will now give Turbo a try.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

H & R Block goes step by step to complete the filing process. It is pretty basic and offers links to the IRS where further clarification is needed. I am not sure about the maximizing refund other than offering suggestions for ways to save for the following year.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I was not able to send it before the deadline because the software was giving me transmission errors, I had to manually fill a lot of the forms because the software was missing my name or my ssn or something. I won't buy this program again

I switched from TurboTax to H&R this year and it was the wrong year to do it. The outage caused a lot if stress. It was very difficult to file on-time and It was not clear if the return had actually been submitted, etc. There were others in my family who had a worse experience with H&R, yet they are not being asked for feedback.
I don't care if the software is offered for free- I will find another alternative next year.

Cons: Time consuming

We've been using this for years. Early on, it seemed great but year by year it seems less useful. The help features are useless. Many inputs implied to be credit generating did nothing, seemingly to generate data for the Manufacturer. Each year we think about changing tax software.
