I have been a TurboTax desktop user for many years before this. However, this year, they mandated an arbitrary requirement for Windows 11. Unwilling to either upgrade my PC for a single piece of software or buy a web service I had not used before, I decided to give H&R's DIY software a try. The experience was positively similar to their competitor's and I am confident in its result. Thank you!

Really clunky, kept asking me to put in my SS income because i'm 63 but I'm not collecting it yet and kept trying to delete that form and it would let me. so every time i tried to click finish it kept popping up Never could delete..

Software bugs forced me to file a paper report
on April 15, 2026

This program has numerous bugs, which caused rejection of my electronic filing by the IRS and forced me to mail a paper return. Some details:
1) Wrongly interpreting day of birth, choosing 1040-SR instead of 1040 and adding a Social Security income form.
2) Forcing the inclusion of form 8959, even though no community income exists.
3) Arithmetical errors in form 5329

Also, when adding details to medical expenses in a items list, attempting to review what I entered brings the IRS form instead of showing the details as entered.

Mostly good. FYI, IRS does’t allow refund by check

Software was easy to use and I’ll value it much more when my taxes become more complicated. Only complaint is your software allowed me to request a check for my tax refund, but the irs contacted me to say this wasn’t allowed and only direct deposit to a bank account will be allowed
