I have purchased the deluxe program for many years and have experienced how easy it is to use. However, this year I had a problem with the way the program handled the RMD amount and the questions revolving this section of the program. Unfortunately, I didn't answer the question correctly because I was totally confused that I incorrectly filed my return. I have since received my refund, but it is short a little over $1000.00 and now I need to file an amended return in order to recoup this money from the error.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to prepare

Some Kind of Poo-Poo

We bought the same software as last year which includes the state software. We filed both last year for what we paid. The software this has the same capabilities but we were required to pay an EXTRA $20 this year to file state. We didn't find this out until we got ready to file state. This is more than shrink-flation, it's effectively a bait & switch strategy to give the wonderful and talented HR Block company a 67% pay raise for the same software as last year.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worked great on older MAC computer unlike turbo TX

Program was easy to use. I had to figure out how to delete a form that I did not need. This was a disadvantage when I was completing the forms for investment income. Review would not accept my taxes until I removed the unnecessary form. Taxes were completed in less that 2 hours. Program highlight was the auto fill from previous Turbo Tax program.

Things went pretty smooth using the HRBD program. The only issue I had was, when using the Federal return, on the page reporting dividends. On the bottom left, there is a check box that specifies that the dividends are from Federal items. My 1099-DIV specified that PART of the amount was from Federal sources. So what to DO...is the box supposed to be checked or not? The answer is on the NEXT page where the percentage can be entered. So, I would suggest that a note be placed next to the mentioned check box saying something like "You'll specify the percentage from Federal sources on the next page".
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Time consuming
