I do not know if this is the best option, it is, however consistently the better value vs TurboTax
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

For some reason my Deluxe H&R Block Federal and State software works fairly well through the information and computation process for the Federal 1040, even does an OK job with my Nebraska return, and I was more pleased that it went a bit smoother than last year. However, then when attempting to make paper copies of the returns for my files, the process balks down and prints partial pages, stops after a page or two, then doubles up on printed pages when trying to reprint. This year I blew through my ink cartridge by all of the unnecessary printing. It would be nice to be able to go back and just print a single missing or partial form, instead of them being offered in clumps.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought 2024 Deluxe + California State Software. The federal program was excellent - very helpful. But the California State software was disappointing and confusing. I was periodically presented with representations of actual California tax forms. But it was not clear if this was for information or for action. If for action: there was no guidance. And I never discovered any place to enter California Municipal Fund Tax Exempt Interest Dividends.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've been using H&R Block Deluxe for years. Great product. A few times, I've had some issues during the Acuracy Review step... once because support for a form wasn't available yet and another time because I didn't answer a question properly. But absolutely no problems this tax year and it was complex, with a house sale and many other financial transactions.
