good but for poor assistance with tax unerpayment

Generally good. However, it did not help much with calculations of underpaid tax and the calculations of penalties on the federal side, and was no help at all on the state (PA) side. The federal forms are there, but there was little information or direction.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

The software could be easier to understand some of the questions for non-accounting personnel, but my biggest problem with H&R Block software is that in earlier versions the software use to let me know that I would save money filing individually vs. jointly with my wife. I have seen this pop up at some point prior to filing. The current program does not seem to do this, I know I probably would be a lot better off filing individually but I would like the program to let me know. I will need to look into Turbo Tax to see if that program does this...
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare

I have used Turbotax in prior years. this year I tried H&R. Most data transferred O.K. - the generation of the estimated tax payments for the next year was confusing and I felt that I may end up not paying enough and subject to a penalty.

The user interface is very old and outdated. There was confusion with some stocks I had sold and there was a supplemental 1099. This was the main reason I upgraded to the "Deluxe" version. In the past the software would make the adjustment but this year I had to manually make. the adjustment which created errors. If there was an AI chat bot available this could have helped.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to prepare
