My return was rejected by the IRS shortly after I submitted it but I didn't know that because I did not notice the rejection email from HRB until I went to check the status of the submittal.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

I have used TurboTax for nearly 20 years. Though it's gotten easier to use, it's also become very expensive and has long-since dropped the option to view the actual tax forms. I found H&R Block's software just as easy to use and the price-point and simple access to the IRS forms convinced me to use it again next year.

Annual exercise in frustration -- do better please

The application is basically unchanged from years ago, with no functional enhancements. With the magic that current AI bedazzles you with, you are stuck with something that seems like it was written in COBOL. I again had repeatable crashing in the same place via interview, so unable to move past this, I had to finish my return adding data directly to a form. The user interface is poor. Jumping within the interview to organically add data throws you back to intro panels that you have to repeatedly step through. I would love to find an alternative tax sw that is not so limited and frustrating. It is 2026, why is it hard to update a simple accounting program?

I am very pleased with the simple yet thorough way that the software led me to complete my family's tax documents. I actually started using TurboTax for 2025, which I have used for the past 6 years but for 2025 TurboTax was unbelievably awkward and gave incorrect guidance. I switched to H&R software and glad I did. I've recommended it to my friends that still file their own taxes. I just received my State return and got more back this year than previous years.

Going back one click takes you back too many steps in some cases. Explaining special circumstances has to be done in the form. It needs to be done in the interface, since that is what we purchased. Had to manually enter my phone number in a state form to enable eFile. Kept clearing so-called errors at the end of Federal, but they kept returning over and over. I had to ignore them and hope it was accepted by the IRS.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I sold a rental property in 2025 and the software handled that easily. My only problem was that the text (both the questions and my answers) were too small. The only way to enlarge it was to use Magnifier, which made everything too big.
