Been using H&R Block Deluxe Software for years. I have never been able to efile, and have never understood why. The software usually tells me that I can't efile because of things like "no taxpayer ID number for an overseas account". This year I tried to fix that, but my efile was rejected by the IRS. Print filings have always been OK.
Pros: Easy to prepare

Buggy and clumsy in places, but basically works

Basically works, but quite clumsy in places. Donations of stock are a nightmare: none of the "type" options matches and one has to heavily abbreviate the one suggested by Vanguard. Then after doing the taxes one has to set a "property type" **directly in a form**, with no hints as to the correct value.
This year the program crashed repeatedly while trying to download a consolidated 1099-B. It finally worked, just as I was about to give up and ask for a refund. The ability to downlod 1099-B without giving sensitive information is a great feature, when it works.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
