Ripped Seams; Stained in the Package

I have been using Dobie Cleaning Pads for years and until recently was happy with them. They do not seem to be the same quality anymore. A few packages that I purchased had seams that were ripped out. The last few packages I purchased, 2 of the 3 pads were so badly stained I did not want to use them. (See picture.) I don't know if I will be buying them again or switching brands.

New box - developing green mold overnight

I have been using these for years. The last boxes I purchased last week says they were made in Mexico. I have thrown out 6 of them because even when wrung out thoroughly, they develop green mold overnight. This never happened before. What changed?

Another disappointed user of many decades

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments from 3-4 years ago re: declining quality. I have been bemoaning the fact that the mesh on my Dobie pads seems to rip on the 2nd and even first use lately and I am careful not to use the Dobie on the edge of my knives or other sharp parts. My mom recently died and I found several 10-year old boxes of Dobies under her sink. I compared them to my new Dobies and the mesh was tighter on the old Dobies and made from a different material. Since 3M doesn't disclose on the box what the material is/was, I can't correctly explain it but the old Dobies last 3-4 months compared to only 1-2 weeks for the new material. But poor as the current materials are, I don't know what to replace my Dobie with. 3M - any chance you are listening to all of us and working on improving the mesh quality? Are the new materials different than the old ones? I started using Dobies in the 70's!

I have been a lifelong user of Dobie's too, and bought them in bulk so I was never without. I too am experiencing what other users are saying. The pads which used to be effective much longer now have a shorter lifespan. They get kind of 'soft' and it's possible to put a hole in one, where I never could before. We are talking in the span of a couple weeks, where it used to take months. I don't want to waste a lot of money on sponges that don't last. I have a lot of trust in the non-scratch product so i'm reluctant to look for replacements after over 40 years of using them, but I find them consistently ready for trash so much more quickly than ever before, that I'm starting to think something is wrong. Something has changed and it's not durable enough anymore. I will add that I have never put one in the washer or the dishwasher, I do not own a microwave, and I use a gentle dishsoap, diluted 80% so I cannot attribute the problem to any of those things.

Not the Same

For years I have only used Dobie scrubbers to clean my dishes. However, the last few boxes have contained inferior scrubbers. The scrubbers have worn out with multiple holes in the netting within a week of use. In the past the scrubbers could see a month of use and not get holes. The new scrubbers are disappointing. Also, could the boxes be solid boxes like before? Under the current circumstances, a box without an open window is more sanitary.

What happened to this product?

My wife and I have been using Dobie pads for the 51 years of our marriage. I do most of the dishwashing and dishwasher loading and was always impressed with how well they worked and how long they lasted. That is, UNTIL the last year or so. They are now a very inferior product. The mesh wears out and gets holes in it within a matter of days and after 2 or so weeks have to be thrown away. We went from getting 3-6 months use out of one pad, to getting a week or two if we're lucky. After over 50 years of being loyal, happy customers we are searching for alternatives. And BTW, the price didn't change, but the quality sure did!!!

Product changed, quality declined!
on September 18, 2025

ith the colored versions. I’ve purchased many colored boxes over the last few years as accent sponges, but unlike the yellow versions, the colored ones all deteriorated and tore quickly, and the seams would come apart. See my photo for a current week-old green one versus a many month old original yellow. But now I see the yellow have changed too— and NOT for the better. The ones in the NEW packaging are a darker yellow, seem a little scratchier, are little bit larger, and breakdown in a matter of weeks just like the colored ones! My mom has also noticed the change and quality decline. 3M says they have not changed their product other than the packaging but that’s clearly untrue because I still have a few of the old yellow ones left (like in my photo) and they are nothing like these new ones. So now they are more expensive and you have to replace them every few weeks. Clearly a profit play. I’ll be looking for a new brand unless 3M decides to change them back. Why do companies trytt to fix what isn’t broken? Such a disappointment!

Terrible color

Same product, but the color change from neutral to bright yellow is terrible. Makes it look cheaper. Sad they changed it after having an amazing performing and looking product for decades.
