does the job

I bought this for myself for use in the classroom. I am a teacher and was looking for something that quickly and easily dispenses the tape. I am not impressed but will use it until I find something better. Also the staples brand packing tape that came with it is flimsy and tears easily.
This dispenser really does not work well at all. Not recommended.

I recently lost my good tape dispenser so went to Staples to buy another. This Staples brand dispenser was a good bit cheaper than the brand-name dispenser next to it so I thought "how much difference can there really be between these devices?" As it turns out there's a LOT of difference. This dispenser is difficult and frustrating to use at every stage. I have to rethread the tape after just about every use and it's difficult to thread without the tape sticking to itself and folding causing more tape to be wasted. Feeding is not straight. The cutting mechanism frequently doesn't work resulting in more wasted tape. My advice is to cough up the few extra bucks and get a better one.

[...] Used other models professionally in the past and some were good & some were not so good. This one will be fine for home use.
The tape dispenser was easy to load and easy to grip. For those that do a lot of mailing this is a nice dispenser.

It needs to come with directions on how to properly thread the tape.

Worked good until it broke

Unfortunately I accidentally dropped the dispenser and the plastic spool where the tape roll slides into...broke. Now I cannot use this product to dispense tape. Granted I dropped it but I would have assumed it should have taken a little more abuse than that... so I guess I will stay with the convenient one tape plastic dispensers. Also some instruction on how to load the tape would have been helpful. The cutter is sharp and you don't want to be experimenting with pulling the tape across it...
