Line Feed Difficult

Product received with no defects and had it for about six months. Putting the line head on is difficult. Does not snap into place easily. Had to get a male neighbor to help. After replacing the line the first time, only one side would feed. Took apart the head as per instructions which is not the easiest. Once again getting the head to "snap" back in place was difficult. Line feed worked for about ten minutes then again one side would not feed. I didn't purchase this as a single line trimmer. Very disappointed in the trimmer and will have to look for another brand. I have several other Greenworks products which I really like but this trimmer is awful.

Hello KB704,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the challenge you are experiencing with your string trimmer. One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro string trimmer has to do with the Load N’ Go trimmer head. The trimmer head on this unit is made for easy replacement of the string on the spool. We understand that for some new customers this task may seem overwhelming/difficult but once they do it a few times it’s quite easy – as easy as replacing a spool. It’s also cheaper and more convenient for customers to rewind the trimmer head because they can use any generic .080” trimmer line(purchased at your local hardware store) and save money on more costly replacement spools. You will need approximately 15' of trimmer line at .080"/.095" in diameter. Note the hash mark on the knob and the hash mark on the spool cover, while holding the spool cover in place with one hand, turn the knob until the hash mark line up with the hash mark on the spool cover. Then take the trimmer line and feed it through one of the holes in the side of the head until there is an even amount on both sides. Then wind the line into the spool by turning the knob clockwise. If you wish to readjust the line or if the line has been wound too short, push down on the knob and wind it counterclockwise. Be sure to leave about 5 inches of slack on each side of the spool. For demonstration, have a look at the following video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xMJH4NMsyg. If you are experiencing issues with reloading the string, we would be happy to see how we can help! First let me say that I am a huge fan of Greenworks tools! About a year ago I decided to step away from my fleet of gas powered equipment and go green. I began with the lawnmower and after extensive research I chose Greenworks 60V Ultrapower. My decision was a forward-looking one. The lawnmower exceeded my expectations and over several months I added a chainsaw, polesaw, hedge trimmer, blower, pole hedge trimmer, this string trimmer and most recently a tiller. With the exception of the trimmer and the tiller (missing handle attachment bolt) I have been extremely satisfied and impressed. With regards to the trimmer, I have some serious remorse. From a design standpoint it is flawed. First, if you want to use it as an edger, forget about it. The battery does not latch in securely and constantly pop out and will even fall out. Second, the trimmer string keeps snapping off at the point where it exits the head. Thus requiring rewinding the head. I have tried other string brands, including those that work fine in my gas trimmers, with the same result. This brings me to my last major issue: the trimmer head. I have large hands but find the diameter of the trimmer head so large that it is extremely hard to grasp and remove/install. This is a problem as the sting is constantly breaking inside the head such that it will not advance. So I have spent more time removing the head and string, installing the head, threading and winding the string and trying to trim or edge. I hung this thing up after the first month of attempted use. Each month I give it another try with the same results. The other day, I decided this routine of trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome was insane. So, I wrote this review. Not only would I not recommend this to a friend. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. I do, however, recommend Greenworks and their 60V UltraPower line highly! For example, the first job to the chainsaw was to cut down and buck up to 30” oak trees that were dying. A jogger came by towards the end and asked if I did all that with my 18” electric saw and I proudly said “hell yes”.

trimmer is built really well however the downfall is the motor and programming. It cuts out for no apparent reason and you cannot modulate the throttle at all. It will stop reset and then you have to re-engage the safety. It is a very very frustrating machine which is why I returned it.

Hello Dtr for father,
Sorry to hear of the troubles you have experienced. This string trimmer does not have replacement pre-wound spools. It is designed to be rewound using 0.080" (2 mm) trimmer line. There are two methods in which the trimmer line can be replaced. You will need approximately 15' of trimmer line at .080" inches in diameter. For the first method: Note the hash mark on the knob and the hash mark on the spool cover, while holding the spool cover in place with one hand , turn the knob until the hash mark line up with the hash mark on the spool cover. Second method: Remove the spool cover by simultaneously pushing the two tabs located on side of the spool cover. The cover should spring off, lift the spool out and feed line through hole in the center of the spool until you get an even amount of line on each side. Put the spool back in the trimmer head, making sure that both sides of the line go back into the grooves in the trimmer head, continue to hold the spool in place. Take the spool cover and put it back onto the trimmer, using both hands press down firmly to ensure that the taps lock into place, you can now rotate the knob on the spool clockwise to rewind the line back in making sure to leave the 5 inches of line on each side of the spool. This information can also be found in the owners manual, should you continued to experience a challenge we urge you to contact us once more at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS).
If your still using Gas your missing out. Literally the best this does it all. Instant start instant power. It goes, goes and goes... weed eat till your stuffed LOL then weed eat some more. I've had this going on 4 years now and have never had a problem. I have two batteries the 2.0Ah and the 5.0Ah both are substantial for my needs I use which ever is fully charged. I also own the 60V leaf blower and 60V chainsaw both are awesome and highly recommend those as well.
If your like me and you have to keep your power tools in your basement this is for you no more smelly gas or special gas cans to keep the smell down. Just pop in the battery and go to work. See video of the power. There is more than enough power to cut in driveways, chop down thick weeds ect.
I own a two acre botanical garden and wedding venue with meandering sidewalks and flower beds. The trimming/mowing takes me about 6 hrs on a weekly basis and it used to be such a pain (to my back). I upgraded to the 60 volt string trimmer and even though I still hate the trimming part of the weekly chore it's not as bad anymore. This trimmer has performed week in and week out for 2 1/2 hrs at a time. The trimmer line is much easier to change and seems to last a fair amount of time. I have to change batteries of course but I love that there is no gas, oil, pulling cords, noise, fumes etc. I now have the chainsaw, lawnmower, hedge trimmer and leaf blower which I use daily. I just wish Greenworks had a 60V de-thatcher.
I bought this a month ago and am so pleased. I bought the extra battery and so far I have not needed it. Ditch the corded and the gas. Battery is definitely the way to go.
