I can operate this

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm so happy to have a yard tool i can use without needing any one else to start it for me. It's not too heavy and I am able to do yard work when I want to without depending on husband or son's to start a pull type weedeater. Easy to operate, haven't seen a downside to this yet. Great product. It's quiet, not too awkward.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Swing and a miss on this one. Difficult and dirty.

I’m sorry Greenworks, but I hate this thing. I LOVE all of my greenworks tools, but this one makes me angry every time I use it. It’s unbalanced with a battery and is difficult to balance with the shoulder strap. It spins in the wrong direction and spits debris all over your legs. I look like I hit a piñata full of grass every time I use it. It chews through string at an alarming rate. Bumping the trimmer to advance the string causes the trimmer to gouge the grass. Good luck trying to edge with it as it just tears up the lawn. Get one mm too close to the fence when trimming and say good by to half your string as it will suck it all out and wrap around the fence. I hate this thing.
Pros: Quiet, Powerful

Disappointed with the quality.

The head cover on the spool is weak and breaks quickly. Thus makes the entire trimmer USELESS! This is my second trimmer with the same problem. Greenworks need to really improve the wear parts or make them readily available to buy and replace. The motor is OK - could be stronger as it does not rotate as fast as gas.
Response from greenworkstools.comBy GreenworksJuly 28, 2025
Hello Reg Air.
Thank you for sharing your experience. The spool cover is a common wear-and-tear part and recommends having spare parts on hand for easier maintenance. You can find replacement spool caps on the Greenworks Tools website (https://www.greenworkstools.com/pages/parts-finder). Ensure you are using the correct line size for your trimmer, as using the wrong size can impact performance and potentially cause additional issues. We hope you will find this information useful. If you need any further support, our team is available to assist you. You can connect with us through Live Chat on our website at www.greenworkstools.com, or by phone at 1-888-909-6757.

Great Purchase

Plenty of power. This handled much like our old gas powered model without the smell or hassle. Assembly was easy, and the battery charged quickly and lasted for our large property. This was a great purchase so far!

Do not buy from this company

I'm on my second trimmer in 2 years and I hate it. The bump feed probably lasted 30 minutes. The battery is a pain to get in and out of the trimmer.
I guess the 30 minutes was 3 times as long as the 40v hedge cutter lasted .
My mower is on its second card which only took a month to replace (before covid) the repair place told me I got the last one in the region and all the others, since their cards go out a lot, were looking at 5 months to get their cards replaced.
Seriously, stay away from this company.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

First let me say that I am a huge fan of Greenworks tools! About a year ago I decided to step away from my fleet of gas powered equipment and go green. I began with the lawnmower and after extensive research I chose Greenworks 60V Ultrapower. My decision was a forward-looking one. The lawnmower exceeded my expectations and over several months I added a chainsaw, polesaw, hedge trimmer, blower, pole hedge trimmer, this string trimmer and most recently a tiller. With the exception of the trimmer and the tiller (missing handle attachment bolt) I have been extremely satisfied and impressed.
With regards to the trimmer, I have some serious remorse. From a design standpoint it is flawed. First, if you want to use it as an edger, forget about it. The battery does not latch in securely and constantly pop out and will even fall out. Second, the trimmer string keeps snapping off at the point where it exits the head. Thus requiring rewinding the head. I have tried other string brands, including those that work fine in my gas trimmers, with the same result. This brings me to my last major issue: the trimmer head. I have large hands but find the diameter of the trimmer head so large that it is extremely hard to grasp and remove/install. This is a problem as the sting is constantly breaking inside the head such that it will not advance. So I have spent more time removing the head and string, installing the head, threading and winding the string and trying to trim or edge.
I hung this thing up after the first month of attempted use. Each month I give it another try with the same results.
The other day, I decided this routine of trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome was insane. So, I wrote this review. Not only would I not recommend this to a friend. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. I do, however, recommend Greenworks and their 60V UltraPower line highly! For example, the first job to the chainsaw was to cut down and buck up to 30” oak trees that were dying. A jogger came by towards the end and asked if I did all that with my 18” electric saw and I proudly said “hell yes”.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I borrowed this item from my local tool library. It was easy to use and as powerful as the gas version I grew up using and no silly fuel mixing or rip cord fighting. Handled my yard just fine in one charge per yard, front and back. This is after not trimming for a year.
Pros: Convenient, Cost-Saver, Easy to Use, Quiet, Durable, Environmentally Safe, Effective, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!

CCW spin.. really?
on July 4, 2023

Used this a few times now. Not balanced very well with a 2.5AH battery, most of the weight is in the lower hand. Biggest gripe is it spins CCW instead of CW which for any right handed person ensures you get all debris thrown right into your legs. Walking backwards helps only slightly. And good luck doing vertical edges.

Response from greenworkstools.comBy Greenworks July 5, 2023
Hello James 216789,

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns.
Most straight shaft trimmers spin their string counter clockwise. As a result, when these trimmers are used to trim against a wall, they cut through the grass much more cleanly and efficiently when moved along said wall from right to left. While our string trimmer are not adjustable, for the best control and balance, ensure that you hold the trimmer by both the switch handle and the auxiliary handle. Stand with the cutting head tipped down at an angle in front, guiding the grass trimmer/edger in a semicircular motion around you. If possible, guide the grass trimmer/edger to the left to cut. The line will cut as soon as it leaves the guard, and the clippings are thrown away from you. If the grass trimmer/edger is not cutting correctly, the cutting line may not be feeding properly and it’s possible that the spool just needs to be removed and rewound - this can also affect the balance. If you are still experiencing issues, we would be happy to look into this matter for you to see how we can help, please contact us directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call us at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS).
