My son recommended me this headset because one can hear speak when using social connectivity software like Slack, MS Teams, Skype, etc... Since my computer runs linux, I was a bit apprehensive about how well this would work. Although it is a bit tricky to configure properly. On the other hand, the dual connection feature is really helpful to configure the headset from the mobile app so that the 2nd connection from linux' bluetooth works properly. For example, conference calls w/ Slack require turning off "Speak to Chat" and leaving on "Ambient Sound Control" to hear oneself in the headset. I was most pleasantly surprised that the headset's touchpad for music control (stop, forward, backward) works with music software on Linux -- e.g., Spotify! If only there were support for 360 reality audio on linux; this would be the perfect headset.
The noise cancelling capability of this headset is fantastic. While listening to music at a moderate volume, I couldn't hear a person talking to me less than 3 feet away! I had to put my right hand to the headset to listen to ambient sounds to hear this person talk!

A quiet life with detailed and semi-powerful music

I got my XM4s through an official Sony distributor and the service and logistics were great. The box arrived fully sealed and in perfect condition. The headphones are really beautiful and minimalistic. Mine are black ones, the case is really elegant and the charger and the 3.5mm cables are alright, although a bit short and flimsy. I own several pairs of headsets, but my purpose for these ones was to create a relaxing and comfortable reading environment wherever I decide to be in my noisy house or anywhere else. I was thinking that the bass was going to be overpowering but it's really engaging and balanced with the other frequencies. Definitely, they are not loud enough, requiring at least a 20% in volume to reach crazy party levels, but the reason for its existence is to have them for long hours on your ears as a detailed music companion and a disturbing noise cleanser. I'm also using them with a FiiO DAC/AMP Q5s and I can get the performance boost that I need. I haven't experienced any video lag with my tvs, tablet, laptop or phone, so I'm alright with the lack of AptX, although I would prefer to have that codec over many of the useless features. Overall, they are very pleasing to most ears and I definitely recommend them, but please, do not make them your only pair, because you'll need something more well-rounded and powerful for other music genres or for sweaty workouts. Thanks.

Expensive and excellent

Great product, received as a gift. Sound quality is excellent and this is the first time I have tried headphones with "hearable bass". The noise-cancelling is great when reading or performing daily routines (cleaning etc.). Althrough expensive, if you can afford it, then it is definitly worth a buy.

Worth the money

I was searching for NC over ear headphones because I work in noisy environment. Was choosing between XM4 and Sennheiser PXC 550 II...Sony sounds better than any other headphones, and they are loud. But Sennheiser felt a bit more comfortable but not loud enough and sound is just not what it should be. I just wish Sony wouldnt make touch control, physical buttons would be much better.

Excellent Headphones with one major design flaw

As a former Club DJ and audiophile I found the sound quality to be excellent at this price point. Noise cancelling worked very well. Headphones are comfortable. My complaint is the touch sensor control, it does not work very well and I find myself hanging up calls when trying to simply adjust the volume. Please provide buttons on the next iteration of these.

Great features

Purchased about a week ago and I’m overall satisfied. The sound quality doesn’t have that booming muddy bass feeling to it but the noise canceling is very effective and the overall quality is solid and crisp. They’re very comfortable and offer a strong selection of features and usability.
