Overall great pair of true wireless headphones

Verified Purchase:Yes
Just received my Sony WF-SP800N True wireless headphones, and I am very impressed. Here's my list of requirements for headphones:
1. True wireless
2. Must stay snug while working out
3. Music playback should be awesome
4. Active Noise cancelling
5. Comfortable
6. Minimal profile
the WF-SP800N headphones meet all of the above criteria. Better than any other true wireless headphones on the market. I'm impressed with the music playback, comfort of fit, and snugness while working out. I love the ANC, and Adaptive Ambient Sound features, but the Adaptive ambient sound needs to allow for a little louder ambient sounds when set to max. There's not a lot of difference between that and just turning off ANC/Ambient sound altogether. When I set ambient sound to max, I want to hear everything clearly in my surroundings, and still hear my music. Right now, I have to turn the music down to almost nothing in order to hear someone talking to me. Even with the Voice Focus enabled. I don't mind turning the music down a bit, but shouldn't have to turn it down all the way. I appreciate the app and the equalizer, and I really appreciate the bass boost! I've seen a few reviews saying the ANC is excellent, and I have to say, I got better performance from my Airpod Pros, but I am new to these headphones and it's possible I'm still needing to do a little adjusting (i.e. earplug size). The headphones do protrude from your head a little, but I'm willing to deal with that due to all the other great features.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great but headphones keep disconnecting!!

First let me say I got these for Father's day and I have been testing them for a week. At first I loved them while sitting down listening to music. The buds produce nice bass and decent mids. One issue I have is that they are not very loud and the noise cancellation is decent at best. But the major issue I have is the music keeps dropping in and out! This problem mostly happens when I am jogging, but it recently started happening more frequently. Also I wish Sony would have included a lock feature on the touch controls or the ability to change the sensitivity in the touch controls. Anytime I wear an hoodie it bumps against the buds and changes the track or activates the Google assistant. Overall these buds have potential to be great a little two big but great battery life. Hopefully I can figure out what is going on with the loss of sound.

Hi Mdubb44, good to know that you appreciate the sound quality and battery life of the headphones. Your feedback will definitely help us improve our products. For the proper sound quality and noise canceling function to be effective, select the earbuds that fit your ears the best. If the size of the earbuds does not match the size of the ear holes, or the earbuds are not properly worn, the noise canceling function and sound quality may be significantly affected. When you feel the noise canceling function and low-frequency sound are insufficient, change the earbuds to ones that feel more sealed. When changing the earbuds, try the earbud sizes in order from the larger sizes to the smaller sizes. The size of the left and right earbuds may be different.

Great but they have some bugs
on October 15, 2020

I watch many headphones review before finally choosing this one. I consider Bose and B&O, but I have B&O and I was thinking about having different brand of headphones for comparison.
The design is great for me. It feels premium and looks simple, and the headphones are really comfortable. They are very light, it feels like you aren’t wearing any headphones. The pads covering the ears are so soft and pillowy. Moreover, they come with a hard case that definitely will protect them if you put them in your bag.
Now for the sound. I’m definitely not an expert. For me, the sound is quite great, and you can customise it with the equaliser which will make your experience better. Strictly speaking, my B&O give a light and clear sound, while Sony give a heavy, bassy, but also still clear.
Now for the minus. It is only a week or so but I have some bugs. When I connect them to my phone, the volume suddenly increase to the max. The first time I had this it really hurt my ears because I was playing some rock music. Now I always be very careful and check the volume first before start playing the music. Other than that, sometimes the headphones give some sort of static sound when the ANC is on. It get lost when you start playing the music, but i dont think it should happen in this premium product. Once when I was watching Youtube, suddenly my headphones went off by itself. And once I had this headphones on and listening on some music, but then I can’t operate the touch sensor on the headphone, i can’t adjust the volume, pause/play, and skip to next track. I had to turn it off first before it would work again.
If you can repair these bugs I will be very happy to give 5 stars. Actually these bugs arent that disturbing, but I really expect more when purchasing this product.

Dissatisfied with the comfort
on June 19, 2020

The ear wings hurt my ears and the ear tips also get uncomfortable too. I can't get a good seal because the ear tips are not big enough, I wish you guys had bigger sizes of ear tips and maybe foam ear tips. Also I can't use the right earbud individually but it says that you can use both earbuds individually, so I'm guessing my are defective. In conclusion, not comfortable and faulty right bud. I'm very disappointed and I'm going to return them.

Hi Mar18, We regret to hear that the unit had to be returned. If you feel like the ear tips are too small, replace them with the bigger ear tips to achieve a better seal and comfort. Also, this will greatly improve the sound quality and noise canceling function.

And yes, you can use the earbuds individually. You can remove one unit from the charging case and use it by itself. Please refer to this link for more info:

Too Many Flaws for the Price
on September 3, 2020

I had been waiting for these headphones for a long time to upgrade my Bose QC25s and purchased them on the day they became available. I'll break my review up into sections:
Fit/Comfort:
The first thing I noticed when I tried these on was my ears touched the fabric that covers the audio driver. This never happened with my Bose, but I figured maybe I could get used to it (although I've had these for 3 weeks and this still bothers me). Ideally I think the foam should be thicker to prevent this. I also noticed these headphones didn't seem very comfortable after about 30-45 minutes, which isn't very long for me. Maybe I have an odd-shaped head based on other reviews I read, but I was disappointed by this especially considering I never had this problem with my Bose headphones. The headphones also get very warm, which can probably be attributed to the seal around my ears for noise cancelling. I can't really fault the headphones here as noise cancelling is a priority, but this is just an observation.
Sound:
The sound is really good. I still don't think it competes to headphones that don't have ANC but I don't really think that's possible. Overall I was happy with the sound. The noise cancelling is phenomenal, and these headphones do a great job of cancelling even mid-frequency rather than just low frequencies.
Features:
I'm not really sure if something is wrong with my pair, but the switching between bluetooth devices is very buggy. I still have to manually disconnect and connect my devices fairly often which is disappointing as that's probably the biggest feature of these headphones versus the X3. I've also had devices that are connected and playing but no audio comes through these headphones (and I have confirmed only 1 connected device was playing audio at a time). The touch controls are pretty nice, I do wish the custom button could be used for the conversation mode but that's a minor gripe. The swiping controls work great and I love the feature of putting my hand on my ear cup to hear my surroundings.
Overall:
I really can't justify the price of these headphones for the poor fit (which may just be a personal problem) and the buggy tech such as the multi-device bluetooth support (which is the biggest upgrade from the X3 in my opinion). At this price I would expect a nearly flawless device. I really wanted to love these, but unfortunately I think I'll be returning them and trying out some other pairs. I really hope I got a bad pair which I think is a possibility based on other reviews I've read, and I think these headphones are definitely worth a try from a store that allows returns.

Hi jose22, We regret to hear that you are having issues with your wireless headphones. If the headphones are still with you, please make sure to update the firmware of the headphones. The software update fixes an issue where, when there are 2 Bluetooth devices connected at the same time, the connected devices repeatedly disconnect and reconnect. It also improves the performance of the headphones. Fit of the headphones can be a very personal thing. For these the length of the headband is adjustable. Please try to adjust the headband according to your preference to see if that will fix your concern about comfort/fit. We value your input and appreciate your feedback. Sony takes into consideration all feedback to improve the performance and quality of our products and services.

Great sound, no comfort
on October 9, 2020

I bought these a week ago and i mainly use them for gym.
The main selling point for me was that they are stable because of hooks and the talk through function.
Pros:
-They are stable, jumping rope, hiit boxing, running, lifting, you wont need to adjust these, they are glued to you.
-I have other sony headphones 700n or something and these sound better then those, so these are definitely for audiophiles.
-Talk through function is nice to have.
Cons:
-Bulky charging case, it's huge.
-The hooks and tips hurt ear after like 20 minutes, so if you seek all dear wear or comfort, these are not it, and i mean they really hurt, maybe sony will provide and option for extra hooks or tips, which they should do.
-Anc is not working, it's bad, like really bad, maybe software update will solve this?
-Side control customization is primitive, need option to customize every tap, maybe software update?
-Microphone is good, but doesn't block out surrounding noises, so maybe software update?
In resume, wait for them to fix the issues, more tips, software updates and we are golden, for now i am very dissapointed with the purchase.

Response from sony.comBy Sony North America Customer SupportOctober 10, 2020
Hi Devel, we're glad you like the sound quality of our product. We're sorry to hear that you have issues with your SONY unit. To maximize the effectiveness of Noise Canceling and to achieve optimal Sound Quality (particularly bass frequencies) it is important to minimize any gap that exists between your ears and the earbuds. Please choose the size of earbuds and arc supporters that results in the tightest seal. (Try the earbud sizes in order from larger to smaller.) A tighter seal may also be achieved by lightly pulling up on the top of the ear and twisting the headset as you place it in your ear. To achieve maximum stability select the size of arc supporter that fits comfortably and snugly inside your ear grooves. You can change the assignment of the functions to the touch sensors of both the left and right units using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. For example, the music playback function that is assigned to the touch sensor of the right unit in the factory setting can be changed to the touch sensor of the left unit.
You can also change the settings that do not assign the music playback function, noise canceling function, Ambient Sound Mode and playback volume adjustment function, etc. In this case, you can pair the device, reset the headset, and initialize the headset. Sony takes into consideration all feedback to improve the performance and quality of our products and services. We're always looking to make Sony better. We appreciate your time sharing this feedback.
