Audio Quality and Customization over Comfort
on August 18, 2020

Switched to the XM4s after several years with the Bose QC35. These are definitely a more powerful, musical and immediate pair of headphones with lots of features and customization options. The ANC is also marginally better. But in terms of pure comfort and versatility for all-day, every-day wearing, the QC35 series is still the gold standard.

no computer download

If you are like me and don't have a cell phone do NOT buy these headphones because you won't be able to download the headphone app. Sony and all their wisdom only allows downloads to cell phones . There is no way to download the app to a computer.

Amazing headphones
on November 19, 2021

Bought these headphones a couple days ago. I used to have a pair of Beats Studio 3, but wanted to switch to something better. After trying them out, it’s safe to say that the sound quality and comfort is much better when compared to the Studio 3 model. There is a noticeable difference. However, after reading a bunch of reviews about them, I was expecting the difference between the WH-1000XM4 and Studio 3 to be a bit bigger than what it actually is. Nonetheless, the WH-1000XM4 are absolutely great, they put out amazing sound clarity, the ANC is amazing, and are extremely light and comfortable. Definitely a good purchase, even more with the current discount (150$ off)

These headphones sounds great but when I move my head different directions they slide off. Was really looking forward to these headphones but I think I will return them. I’m not sure if anyone else has this problem but I think my head is to small.

it seemed perfect for a week until it kept alternating me between tv and ipad, but unable to return to tv. The device, which cone cts automatically to two devices, appears to have a short whereby if you lift a bit the headsets, suddenly it activates itunes music. cannot reconnect to tv unless powering off and restarting... and reselcting tv to wh-1000MX4 output...i guess i should have bought the Bose.. this one going back

Good but not great (especially for the price)

These headphones are good. Great even, especially if you are at a busy square or by trains or something where the noise canceling can accel. Sadly for some however, these do not do the best and canceling out the sound of people talking in a household, in a crowd it kind of works, but I find when I'm at home wanting to ignore all sound including my family (sorry family) I can still very much hear them with the noise canceling and the music up rather loud. The sound spill is also suprising as I have my headphones about halfway and my family can hear my music on the other side of the room. The sound quality itself is pretty okay, but if its sound quality you want I'd save up a few extra bucks and go with sennheiser or someone of slightly higher grade, don't get me wrong the sound is really nice, but not quite $500 worth.. The bass is also lacking, even when adjusted which is also surprising, however it could be aimed that way for people who wish for more clarity in their tunes, but it would've been easier to adjust it backwards, than it is to adjust it this way.. I don't know how to say this so I will try in my most understanding way. There are some headphones out there that completely block out all outside sounds, and these headphones also give me the most personal feeling with my music as its all I can hear, its all I can feel, everything else doesn't matter. These headphones, while having good isolation it's not great, like I said I can hear everyone talking in my house, and its probably because of the less dense and "more comfortable" padding that is used. There is also a slight annoyance for people with bigger heads, the size adjustment is quite limited, but the sizing is pretty fair so this shouldn't be an issue for everyone.
Last but not least, when not playing music if you have the noise canceling on there is a constant hum, I do like it at some levels as a distraction even to help me sleep, but at other levels it can get quite annoying and even hurt at times.
All in all these are really good headphones, i guess i could recommend them if you have the money and dont wanna pay an extra $50 or so, but I would definitely say wait a bit see if they go on sale, or something, I really do feel like I wasted half a grand on headphones I could've gotten for $250-$300.

Painful to wear
on September 6, 2020

These headphones are not deep enough. I am an average person with normal ears, they do not stick out in an unusual way. The fabric on the inside of these headphones press in on the ears. It is not very noticable.... at first. As you move your head around, the fabric will brush against your ears making audible noise. After about an hour the contact with my ears becomes painful. By this time I can feel my pulse due to the pressing, and hear it as well. I cannot make it to the end of a movie wearing these. I wish I never bought them.

Speak to chat and touch controls not working

Worked for 5 minutes. After software update, speak to chat and touch controls stopped working... Very disappointing. I will now have to fight to get a refund after less than 1 hour of usage.
