I'm a 66 year veteran in the sewing department. I've made lots of clothing, home decor and toys over the years. This machine is great for me as an advanced sewer, but anyone could learn to use it. It is very easy to operate. I'm enjoying the quilting features, the lever for control of the sewing speed as well as all the decorative stitches. It even sews denim, but you'll want to use a heavier needle that is very sharp for this. I'm enjoying my new sewing machine and hope it gives me quality sewing throughout my remaining years since I'm not slowing down .I would recommend this machine for the new sewing enthusiast because as they become more knowledgeable, they may want to use all of it's features. In home economics we used Singer machines...a good start, huh?
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this sewing machine about a month ago and have loved it the entire time. It is a perfect beginning sewing machine plus it has plenty of decorative stitches to play with. I have done 2 projects with it so far and have had no problems. I even did the quilting on a twin sized quilt and it worked great. I had no problems getting through 2 layers of fabric plus my batting. My one complain is that the light is not bright enough. I use an additional light next to my sewing machine to make up for it. Would recommend to beginners and experts alike.
Lots of accessories and so many stitch and design possibilities. I'm a beginner and this is my second machine, I love that I can switch between thread colors easily. I love that I can use the foot pedal or automatic sew. I love that I can adjust stitch length, width, and tension. The main reason for the 4 instead of 5, is despite them giving you updated accessory foots, they don't update their tutorial videos to demonstrate how to use the new foot. Example is the darning foot and 1/4inch foot. I highly recommend this machine overall, especially if you're not the type that needs visuals with the exact looking tool.
Really like this Singer 7285Q. Nice machine to do quilting of all kinds and regular sewing to. The only issue I have is that you don’t get a machine manuel unless you go on a link to read. Or order a hard copy like I did. The set up instructions that came with it are ok to set it up but I like having a hard copy in case I have a question about how to operate the computerized panel and what are all the options for. Otherwise it’s a great machine.
Compared to the 40 year old sewing machine I was trying to replace, the Patchwork was a child's sewing machine. 1)The little light was placed to the left of the needle, so the needle arm blocked the light from shining on the right side of the needle, so I couldn't see the stitch guide. 2) My right hand barely fit through the opening to the right of the needle - not very comfortable - kept hitting my hand and I have medium sized hands. 3) The thread cutter was so high up on the needle arm that I could not use it - because my hand would not fit into the opening to the right of the needle and reach the thread cutter. 4) Most of the attachments were made out of chintzy plastic. 5) The little storage compartment, attaced to the front of the sewing machine, was not reachable if you you were using the extended bed. 6) I tried sewing a seam and the machine constantly beeped and stopped sewing. I had to take my foot off the foot pedal and apply pressure again to keep sewing. 7)Thread spindles that hold the thread were very thin and I doubt they would last long with all the sewing I do.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am impressed with this machine and recommend it for piecing your quilt projects. It pieces beautifully! Using the clear plastic wide foot that is included w/ the machine I was able to chain piece without any problems. I made perfect HST. A great value includes 11 additional feet and table!

We are very grateful for your kind words. Thanks for sharing your review of the Singer Patchwork model 7285Q Sewing and Quilting Machine with us and experience with other shoppers. We greatly appreciate it and love the photos.
Once receiving the machine, I just had to use it. The machine was easy to function with and the lines I made on my jeans came turned out straight and well sewed.
So I am fairly new to sewing. I had a singer prelude previously and it was just a basic sewing machine. This machine is a definite upgrade. I haven’t used any of the fancy stitches but I am in love. The price point cannot be beaten for all this machine offers. I watched a few basic reviews on you tube before purchasing and so far everything they said was spot on. I would highly recommend this machine for any newbie or even intermediate sewer.
