Depending on the type of snow, the discharge range will vary. This snow thrower can discharge up to 20' but this would be with light and fluffy snow. If the snow is wet, heavy, packed, or icy the discharge range will reduce significantly. When using any snow thrower on wet snow, there is a chance of clogging. Often, the reason for this is that the speed of the impeller causes wet snow/slush to freeze. For best use in heavy snow types, you will want to move less at once and move a little quicker. Once a full pass has been completed, only move about a third of the width of the unit with each pass going forward. This will help with the load acting against the unit and should hopefully assist in a more enjoyable user experience. Believe it or not, your chute can clog from simply not moving fast enough. As you move faster, the impeller pushes snow out with more force, hopefully throwing in further. It also helps to keep a tool nearby that can be used to poke the ice/snow down when it gets clogged. Never put a tool in while the unit is running and make sure the impeller has completely stopped moving first.
