We purchased this saw to do some clean up around our property after hurricane Sally came through. Holy cow, this thing cooks! We had no problem going through 18 inch diameter oak limbs that were downed in the storm (double cut, of course as we only purchased the saw with the 16 inch bar). To be honest, when making the purchase we were expecting a glorified hedge trimmer, a pruning saw- something capable of cutting smaller diameter trees and limbs, but we were dead wrong. This thing is a silent, odorless killer- like the ninja of chainsaws. We ran this with a 6.0 amp HC battery for two and a half hours off-and-on, as chainsawing jobs usually are (but if I'm honest, mostly "on"). As far as other features go- adjusting the chain is simple and effortless with the included "scrench", as it should be, filling the bar oil is easy to do without making a mess, and the overall build quality seems stout.
Greenworks, if you're listening, some things that would be nice to see improved- The wrap handle, while super sturdy, is pretty slick feeling. Some gnarling in the design or rubber around it or something would make me feel better. I plan to pick up some grippy handle wrap tape to remedy this for myself. A full wrap around handle would be nice as well. Personally I think this saw has the power to be considered more than just a "residential saw" and as such a more pro level feature like a full wrap handle would be nice. Also, a cover over the battery port (like on your lawn mowers) should be added. For the most part chips evacuated out the bottom as they should, but some inevitably wound up on top and a portion of those somehow wiggled their way down into the battery hold. The only other thing that I don't really like is that the materials or tolerances in the inertia brake handle don't feel as high end as the rest of the saw. I don't feel like it's going to break or anything but it just feels sloppy.
Bottom line though, I love this tool. I would recommend this to anyone, including my mom. And I love my mom. If you're on the fence, jump down and buy it (for yourself or your mom). You will not regret it.
Works great! Lots of power and cuts as good, if not better than some gas powered ones I've used. Only had it a month or so. Will review again after a year
Torque is amazing, sound is quieter, startup a push of a button, maintenance so much easier. Chain brake more immediate. Once you realize the power of the torque and adjust, this is across the board much safer than gas-powered chainsaws. It took me seven hours to prune and clean up a long-neglected crabapple. The work was so much easier when using this chainsaw (only on the ground) that I finished with much less fatigue. Never say never, but I will never use a gas-powered chainsaw again. Battery life appears to be more than sufficient for my needs, I have one 60W 4AH for both my lawnmower and chainsaw, was going to get a backup 2AH, but have decided to wait until and if it becomes an issue.
Cut down and sectioned up about four 6-inch trees with ease on two charges. Just as powerful as a gas version. Also cut up large live oak from 12 - 22 inch to make bowl blanks. Took a few charges but did a good job. Never had the chain come off once. Did re-tighten once. After reading other reviews I decided to make sure everything was tightened from the start. Next purchase will be a higher amp hour battery.
