Like the cupholder and headphone mount LED lighting strip can be left off without issue. Desk had clear assembly instructions taking out of packaging and assembling took me about 40ish minutes but I had to redo a bit because I didn't read the instructions carefully enough. I previously used a $40 IKEA table for 8 years so this a huge upgrade me. I like the jumbo mouse/keyboard pad the desk comes with.
