I have had these openers form different brands before and I loved them but this one is terrible. The plastic tip that is supposed to slide under the flap of the envelope is so thick and blunt that it doesn't go it. All they need to do is make this thinner and the blade sharper.

Staples' Older Blue Opener Was Better

I wholeheartedly agree with the comment made by chica in Oregon that the blue letter opener that Staples used to sell was vastly superior to the item hereunder which appears to be the replacement for that older blue-colored version. My biggest gripe about this newer letter opener is that the blade inside of it dulls very quickly and once that happens it can then no longer open most envelopes and even in the case of those thinner ones that it CAN still open it shreds not only the envelope but much of its contents as well. Staples how about bringing back the old rounder blue opener? This new black rectangular model is a poor value.

Half of them were too dull to work.

We open about a hundred pieces of mail every day. Letter openers eventually get dull and need to be replaced. We bought three packages recently and half of them were so dull they wouldn't slice the paper right out of the box. For half of the product to be N.G. right out of the box is unacceptable quality control.
