Great Blu Ray Player. Still works like new!

I have had this Blu Ray player for awhile now and it has been moved from room to room as we get new blu ray players and TV's and I have had no problems with it. I have always kept up on the Firmware Upgrades and that keeps it running smooth. I have no complaints. It was worth the cost and I have got my money's worth out of it for sure!
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight

Great Unit - But not a home run.

I have been selling and installing Samsung forever, great products, great selection. I had high hopes for this new model, as it was to finally(correctly) merge a media player with a bluray player. ALMOST. Plays most media files form external storage just fine, not so much over the net...at least not with out the PC share software. It does recognize other PC software like PlayOn, but playback support is horrible, errors on almost every streaming or local file. Overall pretty good though for a simple "entry level" mixed media product, my customers like the features as they are NEW to them. But as an advanced user my biggest gripe is that i have to have 2 separate USB drives. One for BD-live and One for my media content, the reason is that the player for some odd reason has a max of 8gb for BDlive memory. Why this is i have no idea, but in a world of GB and TB drives its silly. So i need to run a seperate drive to fit the rest of "my" media...yes the unit has two USB ports, but this just means i have to buy a second (smaller) storage unit just to run the BDlive feature. But as i am finding out the media playback support is very limited, so i now have a separate media player (brite-view) to play all my "ripped" content. I hate to say it as a dealer, but if you want full "ripped" media playback support and bluray in one unit...buy the Media Tank by Popcorn Hour, you can tailor that any way you want. Conclusion for c5500 and the C6500 which is exactly the same, except for 7.1 ch analog out, is this...both are good, simple bluray players with some nice, simple, net features the casual NEW-TO-STREAMING user will like and let them cut there teeth on.

The Player it self is really nice, does have netflix, youtube and some other internet access, but the website says Facebook and Twitter....(INCORRECT) got the unit home Connected it up, spent over 3 hours verifying the correct software network connections, finally spoke to level 2 tech to tell me the FIRM ware has not been released yet and there not sure when it is going to be released.....

Very good device

Overall, very good device. Runs well, does what it's supposed to. It's important to remember to upgrade the device, even if via computer & thumb drive, & your router (very important). Do these updates & it'll run well. Also, it's on the box, but not too obvious, to use the Internet features you'll need the optional Wireless LAN Adapter, which is quite pricey considering you're not able to surf the Web. Overall, however, a good device.

Had some bugs to work out
on April 29, 2010

I thought my BD C5500 bluray player would be ready right out of the box to play DVDs and Bluray discs....I was wrong. There are updates needed from online.
It took me 4 downloads to CD roms before the player would recognize one of them, even though they were all the same.
The online update option directly to the player didn't work since my player would not connect online. Instead I got a message that said "contact Samsung"
It would be ever so much better if the products worked straight away. It would be even better if all necessary cables were included in the box for features advertised.
I love all of my other Samsung products. This one just had too many bugs. The company needs to work these things out because most people are not as persistent as I am, they would return the product rather than try try try again to get it to work.

Excellent Blu-Ray Player
on August 25, 2010

I bought this Blu-Ray player to upgrade from my old DVD player. After purchasing the Samsung HD Plasma TV I needed something that would take advantage of the old DVD's I have as well as new stuff.
Wow! am I glad I did. I put a dvd in that I had played the night before and the picture was excellent. The up-scaling really made a difference, made the movie much more enjoyable.
The setup was a snap. Just plug in the HDMI cable, plug in the power, attach it to the internet and everything went perfectly. The player went right to the net and upgraded the firmware and I was up and running.
The nice thing is that it is a Samsung the same as my HD TV. I put a dvd in and the TV shifts to the DVD and starts playing. No more looking for "That Other Remote:. When I finish the dvd movie and unload the dvd, turn it off and "Bam" the TV returns to the channel that it was on when I loaded the dvd.
The internet TV portion works great. I stream movies from Netflix with no problems. The variety of services is good and when new services are available you can update the firmware and they are there for your entertainment pleasure. That's about it. I'm very pleased with this player.
