Virtually unusable and illiiterate support
on July 2, 2010

The single biggest problem is the lack of resume - ie remembering where you were. For example if you are playing a DVD and then go to play something from USB then back to the DVD it will start the DVD from the very beginning (and however minutes of unskippable notices and previews). Similarly it won't remember anything about what you were playing via USB or where you were.
You can't fast forward or rewind playing network stuff, but curiously can ask it to jump to an absolute time. Subtitles in MKV files are not recognized.
I did contact support pointing out these problems, and asking if there was any reason why I should not return the player. (I was hoping for an answer of "we know about them and they will be fixed in the next firmware release due in two weeks.") Instead I got an answer saying they understood I was having trouble updating firmware and asking for my address.
Needless to say I returned the unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I just purchased this Blu-Ray player to go with my new high-def TV (Samsung), and am very happy with it. The quality is great on both Blu-Ray and regular DVD's. Easy to use, excellent quality. It works great when you connect them up. The integration with the AyseNet works GREAT! Good Job Samsung!!! One note: DO NOT FORGET Blue Ray player needs to be connected to Internet for frequent updates it does to keep up with the format changes.
I would recommend this to a friend!

BD-C5500 BluRay player hooked-up to Samsung HDTV, TV instantly recognized player. both player and TV remotes are interchangeable for main features of each. When Bluray is turned on Samsung HDTV automatic switch to Bluray and switches back when Bluray turned off. only problem I had was product support on web site, down loaded software update, which came only as a zip file and unzipped as only a ruf file (no iso file). followed instructions for use with usb drive but it kept giving me a failure to update. Burned same file onto CD and it updated with no problems., but does take a while, so be patient, above mentions features occurred only after update to 1013.4 firmware.

the disc tray only has one indentation for a finger to lift the disc out, unless you have perfect finger thin finger the tray will be forced back in do to the action of trying to get the disc out..very poor design, this is a replacement for the year before and they forgot to add that point and charged more for forgetting?.

A Really Good Player

I bought this player for my parents who are elderly. I wanted something simple to use and operate and this is it. The picture quality is good, the unit is quiet and is very easy to set up right out of the box. I have been using this player for some time now and have never had a problem. The first thing I did was read the directions and it works. Nice price also.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love being able to use netflix and pandora straight from my tv. Since setup I have had no problems with it except that it wont always let me go directly to the menu screen on some DVDs. Fairly straighforward to use and sleek design.
I would recommend this to a friend!
