I purchased this bag as a day pack for a longer backpacking trip. The pocket placement is well thought out and easy to access, especially with the Y-zipper. It still looked brand new upon arriving back home, resisting dirt, rain, snow and stains throughout my trip. I loved this pack so much I bought one for my husband as soon as we got back.

I've been eyeing the Mystery Ranch 2-Day Assault Pack for years—seeing it pop up in Carryology groups, reading reviews, and straight-up salivating over the design, durability, and legendary harness system. Well, I finally pulled the trigger, and let me tell you… it does not disappoint.
As a creative professional, I need a pack that can handle everything—my Fuji X100VI EDC camera, 16" MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, notebooks, cables, chargers, and all the other tools of my trade. This bag swallows it all with room to spare while keeping everything organized and accessible. The tri-zip design is an absolute game-changer, making it easy to grab gear on the go without digging through layers of stuff.
Comfort? Unreal. The adjustable yoke and padded straps make this bag feel weightless, even when fully loaded. And let’s talk build quality—Mystery Ranch doesn’t mess around. The 500D Cordura, reinforced stitching, and bombproof YKK zippers make it feel like this bag could survive the apocalypse.
I added Maxpedition zipper pulls and makes the zippers open even easier. Next step I added a couple of 511 Molle pouches for extra quick storage. I love the modularity of the bag!
I’ve had a lot of packs over the years, but this one? It’s officially my go-to. Whether I’m heading to a shoot, setting up at a coffee shop, or traveling for a project, the Mystery Ranch 2-Day Assault Pack is the ultimate blend of tactical toughness and creative utility. If you’ve been on the fence about getting one—just do it. You won’t regret it.

This is the pack I've been waiting for. Great pocket layout. Great meterial, and craftsmanship. I love the side entry for my laptop. And the size is perfect for yo 6'2" 220 lbs frame. I edc it with all the gear I need weighing about 20 lbs. I've finally stopped buying packs

Great pack for field engineers!

I’ve had this pack for 7 months now and I don’t want anything else. I use this mostly for work. I’m a field engineer and I fly frequently. I also use this for hiking, snowboarding, and for every day use when I don’t work. I really enjoy how much gear I can pack in this. What I enjoy more is the triple zip feature to gain better access to the interior. The pack itself is comfortable when carrying, thanks to the internal frame, and the waist belt is clutch when hiking or making those long airport terminal commutes. It seems easy to clean off after setting it down in the dirt. I don’t ever seem to have a problem with brushing off the dirt. My only complaint is the waist straps staying secure when not in use. The straps seem to loosen up on the pack side after a while. I’ve buckled in for a hike only to have one strap come completely undone. I forgot to check it periodically and I finally lost one of the straps somewhere along the way. Overall, it’s completely worth the money!

This pack is an excellent option for Deployment, Backpacking and Trekking. For anyone who just thinks this is strictly an EDC bag is mistaken or didn’t pack right. Not to offend anyone. Obviously everyone has their own uses in regards to what a pack should be and fulfill their needs. I have been running the 2 Day Assault for over a year now. It is durable, withstood everything I or mother nature threw at it, packed everything I needed and nothing I didn't. I utilize First Spear Summit Bags in it to keep it well organized, identifiable and packed nicely. Had plenty of room in my top lid to pack in admin stuff, spare M4 magazines, Maps, Petzl Gloves, Cleaning Kit and Boo Boo kit. Main Compartment held a 4S Sleeping Bag, 3S Tent, WWP Jacket, Spare Crye Combat Set, Mid & Base Layerings, Socks, Undergarments, 30ft Static Rope, Climbing Carabiners/Figure 8 1.5L Qore Ice Plate/Water, IFAK, Snacks (Clif, Jerky, Tuna/Salmon Sleeves) and a water filter. Multiple other trinkets, mission based essentials.

I loved the pack but I missed a hose passage for the hydration bladder so I read it to a seamstress and asked her to make one. Know this is not a pack for hiking is just for EDC but it's robust enough to outdoors

Brilliant quality, Goldilocks size, for EDC&trip.

I just got the black version(L/XL) from a retailer. the bag has a quality feel to it. The padding on the shoulder straps are nice and thick compared to some of their other lower priced packs. It's a nice offering between the ASAP and 3-day assault pack with just the right amount of storage. Here are some initial observations. I will be taking this pack out on my next trip at the end of the month and will update this review after the trip. Pros: 1) Excellent build quality. Materials, zippers, stitching all what I expect from MR. 2) The adjustable yolk harness is brilliant. Took me a little bit to adjust it but feels very comfortable once done. 3) The side pockets are also made from the same fabric as the back pack which is great and has an elastic band to secure the contents. 4) Easily accessible top storage areas. 5) Side accessible laptop/ipad slot is brilliant. I had no trouble storing and accessing 12.9" ipad pro in a UAG case stored in a neoprene sleeve. 6) Side and front compression straps are great for securing contents in the main pack. 7) Lower back has additional padding for a comfortable fit. Cons: 1) The waist belt is just a nylon belt, wish it was padded and wider like the 3DASP.Or we had an option to buy a padded one. 2) A built in velcro retainer for the slack. I realize I can buy this separately but its more convenient to get them with the pack. 3) Wish the bottom had additional reinforcements to help reduce wear. 4) No air channels for ventilation. I don't know if this will be a problem, will update after my trip.
Certainly worth the asking price.
