Here's pictures of the bag completely flipped inside out. Tape measure is to show estimates of pocket depth or features that aren't made obvious like the space behind the 2 side mesh pockets or the elastic bands on either side of the laptop/water storage area.

Bought this a month ago and have put about fifty miles of hiking on it. Used to use the 3-day assault pack in the Marines but that is too big for just local day hiking. The 2-day is a perfect size for the day hiker. Very comfortable like the 3-day for the distances hikes. Only issue is the lack of a substantial waist belt. I wouldn’t call the detachable strap useful. It’s too flimsy and narrow to be of use. Soooooo... how I fixed this problem by removing the straps and ran an 1.5 inch Cobra belt through the buckles used for the strap and attached the Laser Slim Grip Slotted padded belt pad and now I have a rigid, well padded and extremely comfortable waist belt. Very stable, and it takes all the weight off my shoulders. Almost looks like it was designed for it. Now the pack fits and rides perfect. If you liked the 3DAP then you’ll like the 2DAP. Construction is what I’ve come to expect, I still have an old MR Kodiak from like ten years ago that got me through Iraq and Afghanistan not to mention miles of hiking in Idaho, Virginia and Texas. I do wish it had a dedicated hydration port but the side zipper does allow you to pass the tube through. The laptop/hydration slot will actually hold my rather large MacBook Pro.

I agonized over choosing between the 2-Day Assault Pack, Gallagator, Rip Ruck 24, Saddle Peak, ASAP, Front, and even the MOLE and RATS. I didn’t want one that was too big, and surely didn’t want one that was too small. I also didn’t really want the tactical look, but I wanted the flexibility that having the MOLLE webbing provides, so I chose the 2-Day Assault. As a side note, if this pack is too tactical looking for you, get a Stick-It to put on the front- that’ll tone the tactical look down some
This is a great pack for people who don’t need or want the condition where you have more pack than contents to put in it. It’s a perfect size for day-hikes, commuting, and as a carry-on when you’re flying commercial. MR knows ergonomics, and the pack excels in comfort if you take the time to go through the sizing procedure; I won’t look at a fixed harness pack ever again. It’s also much more rugged than you’ll need it to be, and yet not pointlessly heavy just by itself.
One of the concerns I had before buying was that it might be too big for use as a commuter. The video reviews typically show it stuffed so that it fills out, but remember that it has two compression straps and it can be compressed down to a very small size when it’s not full. I’m 5’8” medium build, and the size is perfect for me- not so big I look like I carrying an overnighter, and not so small I have to leave stuff home. It’s not too small for my primary purpose either- as a pack to tote my telework gear, and hold some gear to get home on foot if it comes to that.
Build quality is top-notch, and I doubt I’ll wear this pack out any time soon, if ever. The laptop sleeve access through the side is fantastic, and I’m using it much more than I thought I would. The lid pockets and interior zipper pockets & dump pouches are great as well.
If you’re trying to choose between this pack and one of the similarly sized packs by other manufacturers, compare the custom-fit harness system on this one to theirs (are their harness straps just sewn to the top edge of the pack? DEAL BREAKER!). Do they have the fast-access 3-Zip lid? Do they have features you will actually use often (like the side-zip computer sleeve access and water bottle pouch)? Are their packs just a cheap cookie-cutter pack with MOLLE webbing?
Some constructive criticisms, albeit minor ones, are:
- Instead of two water bottle pockets, I would have preferred just one, on the right side, and more MOLLE down the left. If I wanted two water bottles I could easily attach a MOLLE pouch for that, but more MOLLE down one side would add adaptability for attaching longer pouches or stacking smaller pouches. Nevertheless, the extra water bottle pocket makes a great dump pouch when you need to quickly stuff some item (like my sunglasses case this morning) without opening the pack.
- Accessories; Grrr…. c’mon MR, get some accessories for these things! I got the 2 Day Assault in black, but there’s no Stick-It in black (or green), and the same is true for most of the pouches. Your factory has the fabric in the other colors, so use some to make the accessories. Some of us have a minor OCD thing going on, and want things to match.
- The Velcro patch on the lid could have been 4”x4” and would accommodate larger patches (I have a few from my USAF days).

I bought this pack right before a 3 week field training to bring my gear in the truck each day. The 2 biggest issues I have with it are the pockets on the sides, and the straps. The side pockets are too shallow to hold a Nalgene well. My water bottle hops out of the pockets frustratingly often. The straps do not have quick releases, which you would expect to get on an "assault pack" so you can both quickly drop it and easily hang it on the side of the truck Its a well made pack and I do really like the 3 zipper system, so as a whole I do like it, but the shallow side pockets and absent quick releases are frustrating.

The quality of the 2 day pack is excellent as expected, but it’s small and doesn’t hold as much as I was expecting. I received it right before I was leaving on a trip, so unfortunately I didn’t have time to return or swap it for a larger pack.
If anything is placed in the inside pockets, ie bush, small makeup bag, sandals etc, essentially you have almost no room for a set of clothes and shoes. I would call this an over night bag at best.
I do like the two zippered pockets on top to store my travel docs.
After storing it under the seat on a plane, the grab handle on the top is offset at the back making it difficult to use to pick up as compared to one that is more at the top center of a bag.
It is a high quality bag, just not what I needed it for. I’ll have to find another bag for my travel purposes.

Great Bag, 2 minor complaints

Bought it about a month ago and love it. Have the 3-day assault in Multicam but wanted something that was lower vis and more travel friendly and this fits the bill. I have two complaints that come to mind though: 1. None of the straps came with a tie-down to stow the excess, wish MR had some velcro for that. 2. My water bottle is prone to falling out of the exterior pockets (it's a 32oz Hydroflask). A retention system that comes with the bag would make it just about perfect. Besides that the construction is good and the bag fits the items I need for a day. Depending on what you "need" you better be good at packing if you want to fit 2 days worth of gear in it.

Have now used the pack for a month and put it through military field use - here are my thoughts:
Pros: as always, well engineered and high quality materials from MR. Super comfortable and can support a lot of weight without issue. This incorporates a lot of good features from the 3DAP, particularly the internal organization. The laptop compartment can double for hydration, the side outer pockets are nice too for easy access items or smaller water bottles, though the can fit a full size nalgene. MOLLE compatibility is good, and the compression straps do a good job of reducing movement of the stuff inside the pack.
Cons: more like quirks. I find it surprising there is no hydration ports - the tubing can be routed through the outer zipper of the laptop pouch, but the zipper will work its way down with taking the pack on and off over time. It’s also only on the right side. I find this annoying but not a serious issue. The downside with the compression straps is you have to pick and choose what kinds of pouches you attach - do not choose super large ones that will interfere with compressing the pack down or reduce your access to the straps. Again, not a huge deal to me just a quirk. Also, bare in mind that the compression straps don’t radically change the dimensions of the pack - don’t expect it to compression down to super small sizes. Final thought: it would be nice to have some D rings for hanging stuff on the shoulder straps - more a quirk with me than with the pack but I’ll throw it in there.
Overall I recommend this product, as with anything by MR. I love the bag overall and definitely suits my needs for EDC and field use.
