Hi Rae4gt,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern. We're so sorry to hear that you are having some battery draining issues with your WF-1000XM4 earbud headphones. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. While it is normal for the battery consumption rate to vary somewhat between the left and right earbuds due to function settings and conditions of use, a significant difference between the earbuds, when regularly used together, should not occur. If the available operating time (on either or both Left/Right headsets) is short or the battery power does not last long, you may check the troubleshooting steps from the link below to isolate and fix the issue.
If the steps in the article above do not remedy the issue and you feel you need more personal assistance from Sony, you can reach Sony support a few ways like phone, callback, chat and text through this link so we can better assist you: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US or you can email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

A recent software upgrade was automatically pushed to these headphones which led to them being nearly unusable since it causes the left earbud to report that it is draining battery significantly faster than the right. The right earbud remains well performing with a long battery life, but the left earbud drains entirely from a full charge within approximately 30 minutes. After this software update is pushed, it is unable to be reverted, leading to Sony software having essentially bricked the product. At best, this is incompetence allowing a bug through to render the product unusable, and at worst it is malicious, forced obsolescence of a product so that the users are forced to replace them or wait significant time to have them repaired or replaced.

The left earbud drains in a matter of minutes and shuts off. When placed in the charge case it recharges up to about 86% but will only last about 5 minutes. No help from customer assistance.

The ear buds worked great for about a year, and then the battery life dramatically decreased. Now I can only use them for about 2-3 hours before I get a low battery warning.

Among the best sounding headphones I have owned but, run-time of only 40 minutes is quite an investment. Had hoped to use these for road trips and hikes but, battery simply doesn't allow. Sending back and looking for another option with better run-time.

Hi Tokki17,
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds. We're very glad to hear that you consider them to be among the best sounding headphones you've owned. But we're sorry to learn that the battery life is not keeping up with your demands.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that can help resolve this problem:
1. Update Firmware: Ensure your earbuds are running the latest software, as updates often include battery and power management improvements. Connect your earbuds to the Sony | Headphones Connect app and check for any available firmware updates.
2. Initialize the headset to restore factory settings. This will delete all pairing information and take the headset to factory settings. Here are the instructions on how to do it:
If after performing these steps the battery is still only about 40 minutes, we strongly recommend contacting our technical support team for a more personalized assistance:

I purchased the Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds about a year ago, and I am already experiencing severe battery degradation. Specifically, the left earbud drains rapidly, even with active noise canceling (ANC) and sound enhancements disabled, battery last for less than 40 min from full charge. It is disappointing because the audio quality is excellent, but the device is becoming unusable. To make matters worse, the warranty support has been completely unresponsive.
