Great Sound But Not Worth the Cost!

First, I want to say that the sound I get from the earphones is great! But for my batteries to be dying unequally after 18 months of little play, I am not happy at all! I bought these earphones in February of 2022. I have used them once or twice a week, mostly during walks. Some weeks, I didn't use them at all. A few months ago, I noticed that my left earphone was dying after an hour of play. I began checking and found out that the case is no longer charging the earphones to the maximum. Now my left will only charge 70%, my right 97%, and the case 100%. I haven't used this product enough to experience this kind of degradation! And if this is normal, this will be the only pair I ever buy from this company! I will listen to something else if this is how Sony makes earphones!

Great for 2 years but now battery won't hold charg

I loved these for the first 2 years but suddenly the battery started dying after 1.5 hours of listening and the case only charges the earbuds twice. Often, the case blinks red while charging to indicate overheating. My charging habits haven't changed and I've tried all troubleshooting that Sony recommends.

Response from sony.comBy Sony North America Customer SupportNovember 28, 2023
Hi LuisABC,
Thank you for reaching out to us. While we are glad you like the sound quality of your WF1000XM4, we're sorry to hear that you are having some issues with the left earbuds. We also appreciate your time and efforts in troubleshooting the problem. We'd like to help and do the best possible for you.

While it is normal for the battery consumption rate to vary somewhat between the left and right earbuds due to function settings and conditions of use, a significant difference between the earbuds, when regularly used together, should not occur.

If the issue still occurs after making sure that you are charging the earbuds properly, try the following:

Fully charge the earbuds.
Launch the Sony | Headphones Connect app, and connect the device and the headphones via Bluetooth®.
Make the following settings on the Sony | Headphones Connect app, and play any music:
Volume: Middle
CODEC: AAC
DSEE Extreme: OFF
Noise Canceling: ON
Other settings: OFF
Note: The CODEC depends on the music files you are playing. You can check the CODEC using the Sony | Headphones Connect app.
Play the music on the connected device, and check to see if the music plays for more than 3 hours.

Hi Terbano,

We're so sorry to hear that you are having battery charging issues with your WF-1000XM4 and you're having constant pressure on your ears during use. We appreciate the steps you've gone through to isolate the issue. The WF-1000XM4 earbud headphones may fall out or feel uncomfortable during use if they are not worn properly or the earbud tips doesn't match the size of your ear canals.

• Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. We have a recommended way of wearing these earbud headphones to reduce discomfort.
• Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides.
Select a proper size that feels comfortable when worn before using the earbuds.
• If you wear the headset for a long time, your ears may start hurting. Use the headset while taking breaks periodically.
Please make sure to follow the guide from this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-1000xm4/articles/00262839

If the unit doesn't charge properly, make sure to clean the charging ports on the earbuds and charging case. Then check the indicator on the charging case. If you haven't yet, check this article to make sure you are charging the earbuds properly:

The headphones do not charge (WF-1000XM4) - https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-1000xm4/articles/00265210

If the problem continues on the WF-1000XM4, please make sure that your headphones are running on the latest firmware version. If you need further assistance, you may send us an email at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

Have flown and used these earbuds for several years. Starting getting red light on the charger case indicating over heating. Now I am losing battery life on the right ear within mins. Cant do firmware updates because one ear bud will die and stop the download. Use to sing praises for these ear buds but now a different story.
