My favorite phone ever
on September 2, 2012
Posted by: LLinTexas
I have had this phone for 16 months and I STILL love it. It is still working. It does have a short battery life (I turn the auto-sync off while at work), and occasionally it freezes when I am playing angry birds, but as a phone, it is perfect. As a pocket computer it is fun. I am still satisfied.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, a larger screen than most
Cons: poor battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overall, this is a great phone. It was my first Android phone. I have since upgraded to the Galaxy S-III. The reason I upgraded was that ever since I updated the Captivate OS to Gingerbread, it would randomly freeze and then shut down and restart. Sometimes I would not realize it did this and I missed important calls and emails. The updated OS also got rid of the Daily Briefing widget that I really liked.
The phone kept shutting off for no reason at all. Tried reinstalling the software and it still wouldn't work right.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We decided to change from Verizon to AT&T. I was going to get an iphone but my husband who was highly impressed with Samsung talked me into this phone. We own a Samsung Refrigerator, Washer and Dryer. Our next purchase was going to be a TV. However after the numerous problems I've had with this phone I highly doubt it.
Phone turns off all the time on its on. Speaker quit working after using it for Pandora ONCE. I have to hit the phone to make it work. Hoping that it will ring (this has happened on both the phones we have purchased) I clean the screen regularly but it will scroll though contacts w/ out touching it, oh my calender entries have some how deleted themselves. I have til july before my contnact is up. I am counting down the time to get rid of it
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best phone purchase thus far!!!!!!

I have compared it to the evo, and Incredible using linpack and Neocore. Captivate scored better in both programs. Does not have the HTC sense for home screen, but worth the money. The music program seems a little on the heavy side, but all together workable as long as not running "Several" apps at once.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The screen is beautiful. The email, SMS, and contact integrations are good and easy to set up (even Exchange). The apps are generally useful. It is responsive.
My main complaint is that there are not Windows 7 64-bit drivers available for the device - I can't access the mass storage via USB.
Other nits are that I can't use the included weather app to create multiple instances for multiple cities and setting the alerts for various features to different tones (SMS, Gmail, Exchange mail, phone call) is spread across many places and not intuitive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great phone needs minor tweaks to be perfect

The Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is an AMAZING PHONE! Although the UI still isn't perfect. If any Samsung programmers read this, please allow for customization of the 2 middle icons at the bottom, some of us like to use alternate browsers, and many of us want to use the gmail email program instead of the other one. Also allow the user to select which screen to use as the home screen. These are just minor annoyances. But the phone performs BEAUTIFULLY! its quick, has lots of memory, the Super AMOLED screen is AMAZING! Movies look amazing, way better than the retina display on the iphone 4. The integrated music and video programs are great! The phone build quality is great, the battery cover is made of aluminum, and the plastic on it is a high quality plastic. Overall i say this phone is great! Just doing those changes i suggested would make this a much better experience for every user. Thanks for reading! I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone seeking an all touchscreen phone.

Needs integration with desktop

The Captivate is a really good phone on its own, but it needs some measure of integration with the desktop for sync'ing music, pictures, videos, Outlook calendars, and Outlook contacts. While Google mail works fine for some things, integration with Outlook is really really needed so I can replace my old Palm device.
P.S. I've tried Kies, even though it is not really available in the US yet, but it is really slow and still does not currently provide the Outlook integration I need.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight, android and open source
Cons: no desktop integration, at&t feature lock down
