Captivate beats competition

I looked at several smartphones from multiple carriers and all the major brands. In the end, I chose the Captivate for the following reasons: 1. Fast Processor and Graphics ability beat the competition 2. Right size, not too big/bulky and not too small 3. Amazing Screen that in my opinion was better than the others 4. Android OS provided greater flexibility some other brands
After owning and using the phone for three weeks, I am very satisfied with my choice. The phone has performed better than any other smartphone that I have owned before. It is very fast for a phone and it is easy to think of the Captivate as a small handheld computer. I had hopes of doing a lot with this phone and I am doing even more than I thought I would. I am managing multiple email accounts, posting blogs, recording video, and browsing the internet with ease just to name a few. Of course there are games and tons of Apps that make the phone fun to use and fun to show off. Swype is a huge plus that makes text entry much faster than I thought possible.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight, easy to use, fast
Cons: battery life typical of smartphones

In most ways a great phone, but I am disappointed that the GPS is almost unusable. I understand that this varies from phone to phone, but on mine it is nearly useless, I consider this a major failure on Samsung's part, and so far there does not seem to be a fix, the latest update did not help my phone at all. Other than that I have been fairly happy with it, a little slow on some things, maybe Froyo will help. I chose this over the Iphone4 because I really wanted the Android experience, and it does a fair job with that.
The battery life is not nearly as long as everyone made it out to be, even with all power-saving steps taken (no use of GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-fi; lowest brightness setting; etc.). The screen is impressive, but the touch response lags on occasion. The system seems to freeze up quite often, and I've had to do a system restore all ready. I think that the more apps are installed, the worse the performance, even though the phone's memory is still greatly unused. Hopefully, more and more software updates will be sent to users by Samsung (including the still-awaiting Samsung Media Hub), so that the phone continues to improve.
THE PHONE HAS NO FLASH, SO PICTURES YOU TAKE AT NIGHT OR IN LOW LIGHTING WILL NOT SHOW. YOU HAVE TO SEND ALL YOUR PICTURES (3 MAX) TO A DROP BUCKET OR BY EMAIL . YOU CANT JUST PLUG IN TO YOUR COMPUTERAND UPLOAD THEM. LASTLY THE GPS DOES NOT WORK ON THIS PHONE. YOU NEVER GET A CLEAR SIGNAL.
Pros: Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have had this phone for a few months and have had to change it out already for a new one. The phone would be running and then just go black and then freeze up. I'd have to take the battery out and then reset it. I have to reset even the new one about once a day. When I had my iPhone it was once a week. I like the features on the phone but there are still alot of bugs in it. My son and I have the same phone and he is having the same problems. We cant even get the software to work. It is very frustraiting.
I am seriously dissapointed in Samsung's lack of updates on the OS.

Other manufacturers are updating their cell phones to the latest Android OS (where hardware allows) with no problems, however you will not release 2.2 android in the US, even though you did OUTSIDE of the US. As far as I am concerned, this is unacceptable. I have been a long time supporter of Samsung, always refering my friends to that brand, whether for refridgerators, TVs or Cell Phones. No more. As far as I am concerned, I will never be willing to let so much as a dime of my money wind up in your pockets, not until my cell phone starts getting updates that OTHER manufacturer's are releasing for THEIR phones. I will simply put my money in HTC's pocketbook, instead of yours.
