Product does not meet expectations
on September 16, 2010

I fell in love with this phone when I first saw it about 6 weeks ago and have been using it for around a month. I have experienced one problem after another - soft keys all bring up search screens the majority of the time, service in the area I am living in is much worse than with my previous phone from the same company, calls are randomly dropped or never ring through, and 3G does not work much of the time (fortunately the WiFi does). The online manual is also hard to use. Accessories are impossible to find. I would not recommend this phone to anyone unless software upgrades to address problems are forthcoming.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Poor quality, Too big, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It could be a greater device. The shuts off problem must be fixed promptly. There are many other devices with the same problem.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight, excellent display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, shuts off by itself

Good Android experience

This phone is excellent, but, I used to own a Samsung Jack (I love this phone!), and it blows away the calendar/contact features on the Captivate. Don't get me wrong I still prefer the Captivate because of the other features, but the lack of full Outlook support without using the bloated KIES software is just not acceptable for a person that lives of his contacts and meetings and does not want his data on the cloud. Otherwise this phone is superb and at least Samsung was generous enough to provide a separate utility (KIES) to support Outlook calendar and contacts, is not perfect but it works!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worst phone ever
on November 12, 2010

This is by far the worst phone i have encountered.
Issues:
1. Phone switches off by itself. I spoke to samsung support they said its due to custom apps. The only App i had was a sudoku. Even after removing that same story.
2. Batter life is way too low. I have to recharge every 7-8 hrs. Support guys said its due to data use. So i switched data off, now battery life is 10hrs. Iphone is far far better.
3. Screen Icons not visible in sunlight. Support guys - Sorry Sir. I dont understand how do I find shade everytime i have make or receive a call in order to see the displays?
I cannot rate it < 1 * else I would have.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, screen icons not visible in sunlight, phone does not work at night it switches off., batter life is horrible.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best Smart Phone on the Market
on October 23, 2010

This phone is beautiful. As always, Samsung does so many things well, the touch screen is like no other with its clarity and touch sensitivity. The processor is amazing. Call quality is great. The phone itself is solid, attractive, and easy to hold and manipulate, The features one most needs are super easy to access, such as volume, contacts, and unlocking. And Samsung's simple yet sophisticated deign lets anyone enjoy operating this.
I am by no means a photographer, but the camera is wonderful for someone like me who likes professional looking pictures who is not a professional.
I purchased another brand of Smart phone thinking I should have a work oriented phone for work purposes, and chose the latest touch screen Smart phone model I could find. I exchanged it for the Captivate in a week, and again recognize that Samsung makes the best cellphones on the market.
Pros: Bright display, great processor, great design and size, keyboard enhanced, beautiful screen, call quality, browser easy to see and manipulate, touch screen quality the best
I would recommend this to a friend!

Absolutely horrible phone
on January 31, 2011

I recently got this phone about a week ago. Looking forward to my first Android device, I researched a lot before hand-picking the Galaxy S Captivate. I am sad to say that this phone has failed me on my grounds of expectation. With no additional applications running in the background, email set to push sync and a few application set to poll every 1 hour, I get about 10 hours of battery life with this phone. This was after turning off every feature, including manually setting the brightness to minimum and turning off WiFi. And it wasn't as if I was using the phone the entire day. As per the Android's battery usage meter, my display was turned on for only 1.5 hours during the entire 10 hour period. This is completely unacceptable. While I understand that modern smart phones work on a charge-a-day principle, 10 hours doesn't even cover the "a day" period. I took it off the charger at 9 AM this morning only to find it die somewhere near 6 PM. On top of this, I have the uncanning ability to make any application crash and hence I pretty much crash two applications per day before getting frustrated and stop using my phone. On top of this, every reboot cycle after a die-from-the-lack-of-battery, if you interact with the screen before the media scanning starts, you can make the OS hang and the only way to fix it is to remove the battery and re-insert it. Needless to say, I'll be trying my best for my carrier to take a return on this phone and will be switching to the iPhone (and not getting any Samsung product ever again). Good bye, it was nice knowing Galaxy S while it lasted.
PS: This behavior didn't really change with the upgrade to Froyo as well.
Cons: Poor quality, Too big, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've had this phone for 5 months and at first it was cool but then it started having major issues. Freezing up, not ringing, random msg's at the bottom of the screen, force closing numerous apps like Facebook ecspecially, won't play videos, camera freezes up. etc.... I know alot of people who have this phone and they are having the same issues. And No! Updating it doesn't work!!!
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This device does not sync with Outlook on the MS Exchange Server and the help center is a joke. Battery life is way short of the claim of up to 300 hours.
