It is a great phone. It does NOT have android 2.2 as stated on the site. It has 2.1. Gingerbread (3.0) will be out very soon and captivate owners are still waiting on 2.1 with little to no hope of getting 3.0 on their phones. Samsungs lack of os updates and support have current owners looking at other cell phone's other than samsung for their next phone. The phone itself is great, but samsung needs to prove current and past owners of samsung phones and step up and support the phones longer and give os updates.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display
Cons: lack of updates to os

I upgraded my phone to purchase the Captivate from a Motorola backflip. The Captivate is a more solid phone with a bigger screen and a faster processor. The backflip was never updated to Android 2.1 when I owned it. If cell phone companies & Manufacturers want to alienate their customers, then don't take deadlines seriously about Operating system updates!! (Samsung we need 2.2 on the captivate now!!). I am hoping that the Captivate will also update the OS to 2.3 as soon as possible after this OS is released. Updating the current phones to the new OS's will keep customers like me coming back to Samsung. The customer can't and won't buy a new cell phone every 6 months.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, fast & responsive
Cons: not updated android 2.2, needs more battery capacity

I just bought my Captivate but I've been researching it for a month! It has everything I wanted in a cell phone and more. I love, love the Android system, the camera and all it's abilities, the Swype texting option, the quickness to respond, I could go on and on. This phone was perfect for me! Thanks, Samsung!
Overall a good phone. The caveat is the delay getting Android OS 2.2, the problems with GPS, and the inability to sync to Outlook.
To be fair, Samsung has produced software to address the sync issue and OS2.2. The problem lies with the carrier delaying the OS and trying to pull features out of Kies or the OS that do not fit their business model. The carriers would be better off keeping their hands off the OS and just deliver a service that fits the device rather than altering the device to suit their business model.
All things considered, I would not buy the phone again through this carrier.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor sync options, gps issues, os delay

My only problem with the phone is it needs a firmware upgrade to Android 2.2 or even 2.3. This phone has the potential to be a great phone if we can get the right software for it. Also it would be nice to be able to use programs that the phone shipped with an example is media hub, if it doesn't work don't put it on phone.
