Kies Does Not Sync well with Outlook-Can wipe out your data!!
on September 26, 2010

Samsung's Kies program is supposed to sync with Outlook. However, other than a pretty face, it is a very poorly written, buggy program that not only does not sync well, slow, unreliable, it will even wipe out your Outlook Contact data if your note on Outlook Contact is larger than about 580 letters. Of course, there are other problems with the KIes. I do not understand why a simple, basic, but much needed sync program seems so difficult for Samsung.
The bottom line is, it is a beautiful piece of hardware that Unfortunately, matched with a piece of worst software I have ever seen. I am sure this will turn away a lot of potential users who have accumulated data over the years on Outlook. What a shame shame shame! Quite disappointed.
Pros: Bright display, nice form factor, good specs.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, kies does not sync well with outlook and wipe out, sub driver problem, can not yet upgrade to android 2.2, kies is buggy and hazard to your data
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Beautiful Screen, flawed GPS, no service from Samsung

I have owned this phone since last August. The many positive reviews sold me on this phone instantly. Shortly after I have purchased this phone, however, I noticed that the GPS was really the most part unoperational. Being a self-sufficient techie, I scoured the internet and found that it was a common problem among this model, and that a fix for the GPS was "due in September." That fix did not fix my problem either. If the GPS worked on this phone it would get 5 stars!
Pros: Bright display
Cons: gps doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the best smartphone I have owned. The only problem I have with the phone is not being able to hook it up to my Windows 7 64 bit laptop and getting infomation about the upgrade to Andriod 2.2 from anyone. Just to be able to know the date when to expect it instead of in this guess game of when it will happen. Other than that this is a great phone. I would definitely get it again no question.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice Phone, but GPS does not work on MY Captivate.
on October 26, 2010

The phone is a nice phone, it gets the job done fairly well but I can not rate it a great or even good phone until a working fix is given for my Captivates GPS problem.
For those of you who don’t know, many of the Galaxy S phones (including my own) have had GPS issues where they will not lock or hold a lock for navigation and Android application purposes. Samsung to their credit is trying to fix the issue and has already released a few patches that were aimed at addressing the issue. It might have fixed others problems but my phone still has issues. A Samsung rep has informed me that they are working on a 3rd fix to be due out in the coming months.
Another issue is there is a slight amount of flex in the slider that connects to the battery door.
Getting beyond the GPS issues and the flex issue, the phone is nice. Battery life is better then most smart phones on the market, and the processor is fast!
The reason I’m giving this phone an overall rating of 2 stars is that it has been a few months since July 2010 and one of the most utilized android feature sets has not been fixed. Many android apps are GPS centric.
I hope that Samsung fixes the major GPS flaw that plagues the Galaxy S line. Until then I can only rate this phone a 2 out of 5. I would change that rating to a 4 out of 5 should a workable GPS fix be issued for my phone.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, gps does not work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Solid android phone but a few issues:

Pros: 1) AMAZING phone and it's my new found love.
2) Fast OS, great implementation of 2.1 by Samsung's own twist to the OS
3) Options....as with past experience with samsung products, you can tailor almost everything to your own taste and Samsung never forgets to put in the options for customization.
4) Amazing pictures and video
CONS: 1) When browsing the internet with mp3 playing in the background, pressing the home led will land you on an empty wallpaper with just the circles indicating the home pages ... but no apps/shortcuts appear on the blank homepages for a few seconds.
2) When using wifi and listening to mp3s, static can be heard, especially when walking while doing those things . (device is on its holster sitting on its holster)
3) When playing mp3s for a few mins, phone shuts off display and locks screen; during this- you can press next/previous/pause track without unlocking the screen, but can't access the music app while screen is locked. Screen must be unlocked to access full music app.
4) No front facing camera (can't video chat easily using fring)
5) No flash for camera. ============================================ In conclusion: I'm 95% satisfied with the phone. 5% of my dissatisfaction comes from the cons, but for the most part you will love the 95% and likely forget about the 5%.
Thanks Samsung!

Time to Catch Up WIth The Competition and Get Froyo Out.

I like the phone for the most part, but find it hard to recommend Galaxy S products because Samsung has Still not released Android 2.2 (froyo) while most others have. And worse yet, no ETA at all. Like it or not, having Android 2.2 is very important to most users.
