I've had this phone for a couple of weeks now and I am considering whether to return it.
I was looking for an Android OS phone and the various features on this one seemed to fit the criteria I had set for my new phone. However, I made an assumption regarding certain aspects of today's cell phones that has now proven to be invalid. Specifically, After my wife upgraded to an iPhone4 and a friend upgraded to a Droid, I sort of assumed that there would be an inherent capability to synch with calendar or address book applications on my PC. WRONG!
This phone does not synch with a PC (or a Mac, for that matter). The "synch" method that Samsung offers is to let you hook up to the PC and transfer files between the PC and your phone's on-board memory. Not exactly what I'd call "synching"!
If you have no need to synch with any applications on your PC (e.g. Outlook's calendar or Address Book) then this phone is great. On the other hand, if you want to be able to manage your calendar or address book on a PC where it is easier to type, then you're out of luck.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, no pc synch capability
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice phone

Everything about this phone is great. Only wish it came with Android 2.2 instead of 2.1.
Only gave 4 stars on performance because the GPS is BAD (position can be off by as many as 5-10 city blocks) and it's slowwww to connect to satellites. Users are waiting for a promised patch that is currently outstanding. My other performance quibble is due to it's tendency to act a little sluggish if you are running more than a few apps simultaneously (but it's nice to be able to multi-task).
Neither of my gripes should be considered deal-breakers for this phone. I didn't get the phone for it's GPS capabilities and the slight slow-down when switching between running aps like the Music Player, Youtube, and Quickoffice is no more than that of an average computer switching tasks.
Otherwise, 5 star, super quality, great photos/video/audio. Some of the included apps are nice and access to thousands of apps from the android marketplace is nice too. A camera flash is for noobs... really who wants to be bothered by camera flashes?
I could say more, but other people have done that all over the place.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color, lightweight and solid, quality audio, touch interface, on-screen keyboard, promissed 2.2 update should speed things up
Cons: can be sluggish, should have android 2.2, only has android 2.1, gps is sloowwww, gps is inaccurate, waiting on gps patch, waiting on froyo 2.2 update
I would recommend this to a friend!

Device will cause you more grief than other Android phones

The GPS that did not work until a much delayed update now is able to determine a location, but is usually off by about 100 feet. Driving around town the phone is so confused it is funny to watch it constantly recalculating my route. The GPS seems to work best when the phone is not in a case and held over my head in an area with no trees or nearby objects. If i encounter a tree on my route or a dual level house then forget about it.
Applications install and work, BUT for some reason they freeze for about 10 seconds and then are sluggish and unresponsive. Same apps on other phones are fast responsive and usable. Phone screen will go black during these freezes and all buttons are unresponsive.
Texting is quite a problem. You can tell when the phone is about to receive a text because whatever you are doing freezes for a second and then the text alert goes off. Many times I will receive a text multiple times, last night one text came through 10 times. I hope it is not sending multiple copies of the text as well.
Receiving phone calls is problematic as well. The phone will ring and present you with the opportunity to answer BUT since it freezes at that point for 10 seconds you are unable to swipe the accept to answer the call.
Built in applications and other stock applications experience the same lag and freezing as 3rd party apps. I have been told it is something to do with the way the phones application memory is configured.
I think the only solution will be to uninstall all 3rd party apps and prey for FROYO. LOL.
All in all this phone had so much promise. It hits all the correct buzz words, but usability is not one of them.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was an iPhone user and I decided to try something different so I bought the Captivate. Let me say this to all Smartphone users: This phone is by far the best Smartphone on the market and in my opinion, it surpasses the iPhone in every way. Be warned of this, if you are prone to not reading your directions or do not have an understanding of how the 3G network and Wi-Fi works then you should not be a Smartphone user. Sure you may not be to sync to Outlook or your computer for that matter but nor could the iPhone. Conversely, if you are an iPhone owner looking for a better product you cannot do much better than this. We have all heard the rumors of an iPhone killer coming, well the killer has arrived and its name is the Samsung Galaxy S or Captivate.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love more than my wifes Iphone4

Love the Screen! The sound is awesome. The apps run smooth. Been able to sync contacts and photos w/o any problems. Samsung Kies has similar features to Samsung PC Studio so it has made the transition easy. Download Samsung Kies from Samsung Canadian site by the way. Bluetooth and Wifi has worked great. Animated wallpapers are great eyecatcher.
I would give 5 star rating if Samsung fixes GPS. Very disappointing since a lot of apps use your location. Using any map app makes me look like a drunk driver. Hope to see fix soon.
I would recommend this to a friend!
