Great phone but no Android Updates - very disappointing

I bought this phone back in July when I switched to my first smartphone. Great phone to work with and display is fantastic. Challenges often come from Android Apps that occassionally freeze but I believe this is an app problem rather than phone problem.
Biggest disappointment is the fact that no update to Android 2.2 which is the entire reason for owning an Android phone. Not sure why and lack of communication regarding this is deeply disappointing. One reason I might not buy another Samsung phone in the future.
Cons: no updates to android 2.2, speaker not as good as iphone 3gs
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was so impressed by this phone when it was first released. But since then I have learn that Samsung lacks supporting this phone. This phone are already 2 releases behind other Android phones. If I wanted a stale phone I would have bought a regular phone. At this time I would not recommend this phone to any users because of the lack of support between Samsung and its carriers.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, outdated
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Updates not available, battery life unacceptable

I have been using this device for about 3 weeks now and am very disappointed. The phone could be very nice with two fixes. One, a beefier battery. This one typically lasts me only until about 4pm when I have to plug it in to recharge. I am now keeping a spare battery to swap out if needed. Having a spare battery charger would help out so that I could keep extra batteries ready to go. I've never seen a phone that drains the battery like this, and that is with all settings reduced to conserve the battery life.
The second issue is the lack of updates. Selling a phone in Dec 2010 that is still running 2.1 android is ridiculous. Blogs are still asking when the 2.2 Froyo update will happen which is crazy because 2.3 Gingerbread is already out. Why not allow users to update on a beta version at their own risk? I'd love to be able to get some updates that can fix other problems with this phone (such as not having voice dialing support).
I can't recommend this phone with these problems.
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not a very smart smart phone

I came to hate my iphone as it became more tempermental with age, so I let a man talk me into this phone. . Don't expect any useful documentation to come with this phone. You will have to go online to learn how to use it. Don't expect to be able to rely on intuition or common sense to figure it out.Don't expect a quality speaker. It's not. Don't expect it to seemlessly work with your desktop. You will have to make a number of adjustments in settings to get connected. And finally, don't expect to be able to synch your new phone with your computer calendar & contacts. Not designed to do so. I suspect that much of these problems can be satisfied if you want to download some apps, but that just adds another layer of complexity & inconvience to the purchase. I've had this phone 2 weeks. I won't have for 3.
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, dumb for a smart phone, does not synch
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm about to go get my 3rd replacement Captivate. First one had GPS problems, 2nd and 3rd both randomly power off. Both are well known problems and experienced by many, google it and you'll see. If the thing would actually work as advertised it'd be a decent phone, but as it is it's nothing more than an expensive paperweight.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, gps doesn't work, powers off unexpectedly
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I Was CAPTIVATED When I Purchased This Phone

This is a GREAT phone. Let me begin with the features on the outside first. When you first get the phone, you will most likely notice it's 4 inch Super Amoled screen, and they didn't lie; the screen truly is SUPER. It is very large, responsive, bright, colorful, vivid, and it has a GREAT contrast ratio. I would pick this screen over ANY screen on the market at the moment. Around it are very responsive touch keys at the bottom. Some people say the back feels cheap, but for me it is just about the opposite, it gives me a nice premium, yet durable feel. All in all the outside of the phone is great.
The inside of the phone is very impressive, but at the same time a bit disappointing. The phone has a great processor and with other UI's it is easily the fastest in the market. Sadly to say, touchwiz is a bit laggy at times, but for the most part it is really nice. The camera is pretty good when sufficient light is given (there just has to be a bit of light) but in the dark, even with changed settings, you might as well be taking a picture of a black piece of paper with no flash. Video quality is GREAT as it offers 720p video recording. The apps are fine, but there are 2 downsides. The AT&T apps a bit annoying because I never use them and they just seem like bloatware. The awful part about this phone is that when you get it, you can't side load apps, and with many great beta's coming out not on the market it may be a bit frustrating.
All in all this is a great phone. Yes it has a couple of downsides that you CAN fix with a little research, but those downsides don't give you a reason to not buy this phone. If I was given a choice between this phone any any other AT&T phone on the market, I would choose this without any second thought. Long story short.... GET THIS PHONE!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great phone, only downfall is the GPS. They also need to hurry up and release Android 2.2 for this phone.
