Captivate replaced my iphone 3GS and HTC EVO 4G

I have had this captivate for 1 week. The HTC EVO 4G has a larger screen but it can't compare to the Captivate for color or clarity. Both phones have the android operating system so their home pages and screen configurations are similar. The EVO 4G has a suoerior GPS antenna array or satellite locking system. My captivate finds 5 satellites but the maximum strength on any of the five is less than 40 so no satellite lock and no functioning GPS programs. I have spoken with Samsung support and they are aware of the problem and assue a fix is in the pipeline. Both the iphone and EVO 4G get good satellite locks at my location. This in no way puts me off with this phone.
The battery performance is vastly supperior to the EVO 4G and better than the iphone 3GS. I charge the phone in the evening and set it by my bed for alarm clock purposes. When the alarm goes off the next morning, I still show 100% power when the alarm goes off. My iphone would lose 10% power durring the sa.e application. With the massive power drain on the EVO 4G, I left it plugged in all nite. I have moderate phone activity durring the day, listen to music for 1 hour durring gym time, read news from my widget over morning coffee, I receive 30 plus emails per day that I check from my identification ba, surf web at least 3 times per day for min 10 minute intervals, and still have 25% power when I plug in in evening (8-10 pm). The one power drain is if you game with games that push the screen. You only have 2 1/2 hours of intense gamming until you've drained a full battery.
The one place rhis phone blows away all competition is in HDD video. The camera is vastly superior to the iphone 3GS and has better pictures than EVO 4G except where you need flash. The EVO 4G has 2 cameras, one on front so it is superior for vidieo calls.
I have had only one dropped call in the past week, which is less than the iphone or EVO 4G.
The bluetooth sincs great with the speaker phone in my Dodge Ram 2500, but the real plus is you can turn the bluetooth off on the notificatin bar on top of phone in all screens. The iphone would not rlease sync even in settings. The EVO 4G Would but only in settings. The captivate cuts sync in two taps from anywhere, a real plus when you need privacy on phone.
Call quality on the Captivate is much superior to the iphone 3GS but on par with EVO 4G.
Bottom line is this phone is superior to both iphone 3GS and EVO 4G. When the GPS locking problem is fixed, it will be perfect for business phone.

It is way overdue, a phone this great and appealing and you cant even get updates rolling out in a timely manner for your products. Its what alot of customers expect when buying a product as you can see by all the reviews here>> Building a good phone doesnt just give you a good reputation, its how you support your products also. Can you show a little effort Samsung.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations, slow on updates

Hardware is top quality but software is not

Design of the unit is clean and simple - very minimalist. Out of all the Galaxy S variants, I think the Captivate is best. Despite the use of plastic in the casing, it does not look or feel cheap. I guess it's because of the huge S-AMOLED screen that dominates the front of the unit. S-AMOLED may be nice, but it drains the battery very quickly especially when set at the brightest level.
For a company that is ranked at the top of mobile phone makers worldwide, software updates are very slow to be released. I have had the phone since it's release in the US and there has been no updates from Samsung - NONE. There was an one update, from the telco, that now has given my unit a glitch - I cannot connect to the telco server via OTA. While the rest of the world are already updated to Android 2.2, 2.3 being released soon, and 3.0 coming in Q1 2011, Samsung has no official date yet on when the 2.2 update for Captivate. So I wait.....
With a 1Ghz CPU, you would think that the unit would be fast and quick. Indeed it is when you are in a particular app. But switch between apps, you'll notice that lag. Hit the back or home button while in an app and you will experience that lag - and it has a name, "TouchWiz UI 3.0". So overall, it's a beautiful smartphone dragged down by its software - hopefully only until its update.
I have had my phone for two days and so far, it has been great. Android apps are easy to install, with lots of choices. I picked this phone over the iPhone for one main reason: i Tunes is a lousy program! I can manage The Captivate with Windows, just fine Thank You. The screen is bright and very clear. It has a lot of cool features. I am still learning about all of the capabilities, so time will tell. Memory expansion is a snap. Take that, Apple!

Great phone with one flaw

I got the captivate on the first day pitching it against the iphone 4. And I love it. It was much faster loading webpages, the screen is gorgeous and frankly there is little to complain about. EXCEPT this: the gps is occasionally very inaccurate (both with wireless networks on or off), it puts me at least half a mile from my actual location both at my home and my work and seems to think I'm turning around all the time when navigating. THIS NEEDS FIXING!!! Rumor has it an update is on the way but SAMSUNG please confirm because I may have to return it otherwise (as much as it would pain me) before 30 day period expires.

Above and Beyond

I have had many different phones. Flips, bars, multimedia, and couple of smarts here and there. I bought this phone and it hasn't let me down at all. It's amazingly fast and the features are amazing. (All though it would have been really nice to have Flash for the camera.) But still, a great phone, even before the Media Hub comes out, Can't wait either. The only thing you can do with this phone Samsung is keep making it better. Great Phone. Definitly glad I chose it................

No Froyo 2.2 update Yet!!

Great phone..... I've had it for 2 months, and it is unbelievable!! The only problem is that it doesn't have the 2.2 Froyo update and alot of pages need the flash 10.1 for it too work! Other than that, phone is awesome! Please release Froyo 2.2 ASAP!!!
This phone has a spectacular screen and the swype keyboard is very nice. My disappointment with the phone is that Active Sync won't configure my work Microsoft Active Sync webmail, there's no copy and paste in email, can't search the calendar, can't schedule biweekly events on the calendar, have to select google calendar every single time you create an event if that's the calendar you're using and the Samsung program Kies that will sync with Microsoft Outlook is hard to find, hard to make work and somewhat primitive. This phone is more of an entertainment phone than a phone for someone who wants to combine business and pleasure. Pocket Informant is in development now for Android and hopefully that will solve the calendar issues. However, I want to get my work webmail. I have two weeks yet to decide whether to keep the phone. I don't know what I am going to do yet.
