I had this phone before my work purchased me a DROID 2 global. Outside of the difficulty with GPS, I LOVED this phone. It's significantly better than the phone I have now. Which I could switch back to it!
I am writing the review after owning the Phone for a long time, Now I use a Newer GALAXY SII. This phone was a one of a kind when it came to the US. Awesome and delivers even today. SUPER AMOLED SCREENS I CANNOT GO WITHOUT! The tech in samsungs PHONES ROCK!
This phone was researched a little. It's my first touchscreen and I really love it. First, it connects easily to my Gmail account which is very handy to let me know when I receive emails especially when I'm not at a computer. And I can write back easily as well, which is also helpful. I took a trip with a regular digital camera & never used it because everything was taken with my phone, high quality & gorgeous. However, it is not great in low light.
It also connects with all things Google (photos & calendar, video) and makes it easy to upload whatever you have. Apps are easy to use, pretty user friendly phone. LOVE the Map feature too, it is an excellent GPS.
People who have those rounded-corner phones are always saying to me: "you took THAT photo with your phone?" or "I like your GPS, it's so accurate".
I've just recently learned the Voice Search which lets me send a text, call someone or a business or get me directions. FUN! And EASY!
There's a couple quirky things like: 1) my 2 Wi-Fi connections seem to drop more often than I like, I have to reconnect when I'm in range (not always, but at least once a day). 2) the brightness seems to go back up to BRIGHT on it's own, even though I have taken off the option to be on Auto. Two things slightly inconvenient, but hey, there's so many more pros!
The Samsung Captivate is a very good Android powered smartphone. I used the phone for a little over a year and the only reason I moved on was because of the power button becoming nonoperational.
This phone meets all expectations and is a great tool to have.
I had an issue when the power button stopped working. This defect prevented me from waking or shutting the screen with the button. I would either have to wait for call, text, or plugging into the charger would make it turn on.
I tried speaking with Samsung Support and they sent me a shipping label to have it repaired. However, I was able to upgrade to the Samsung Infuse with AT&T. I decided to do this and am so far happy with the upgrade.
Amazing screen and ease on menu operations make this one of the best phones ever. Free Droid apps provide every function anyone could think of. I have dropped it multiple times, even in water, and it still works perfectly.
It's plenty fast enough for me, and it's got a great amount of internal SD storage. It's slim enough to get in and out of my pocket without much fuss. Battery life's not that bad. My favorite part's the screen, though. It's a nice size, and the colors looks great.
