Decent Froyo Smartphone

When it debuted, the Galaxy S Captivate was one of the fastest Android phones. I upgraded to the phone in September of 2010. At that time, it was announced that Froyo (Android 2.2) would be released that month or the month after (October) and would vastly improve the performance over the pre-installed Eclair 2.1 OS. Unfortunately, that upgrade didn't come officially until February of this year (2011), while other carriers basked in the OTA update long before then. Now that Gingerbread (OS 2.3) has been released and ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0) is slowly coming out, the Captivate still hasn't been updated unless you're inclined to unlocking it yourself which can, if you're not careful, cause you to "brick" (lock up) your phone. I digress. I'm running Froyo 2.2, having updated the official version and there are indeed features of the OS that I enjoy, like a dedicated Task Manager app and a smoother interface. From time-to-time, this phone suffers from hiccups and/or freezes when I'm using apps or checking the news feed. However, they are few and far between than when I was running Eclair. Gingerbread all but eliminates that though it's not without it's hang ups either. Overall, the battery's decent. Can last a full day of moderate texting and app/internet usage but will quickly drain it under heavy use. True of the majority of smartphones these days. In August of this year, I upgraded to a Nexus S but quickly gave it to a friend as the Gingerbread OS had eliminated many of the features I enjoyed with Froyo (like the dedicated Task Mgr app) and it sucked the battery dry under moderate use. Simply put, if you're not looking for a phone that has to have it's OS updated every month and will do everything you want it to do and then some, this phone is for you.
I love the Adroid Market and the free music, games, and apps it offers. You can find an app for everything you need in your life. The only downside is the battery life but that's no big deal considering all the pro's this phone has to offer.
I'm very happy with my Samsung Galaxy Captivate. The design/style, brilliant display, and Android operating system all get thumbs-up. The camera takes the most crystal clear photos of any phone I've seen. Only wish it were available from all wireless carriers.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This phone is absolutely amazing and just continues to amaze me. It's got a decent battery life especially with all the apps I run. It has froze up on me once but only when the battery was almost completely dead. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good functional smart phone.
