I've tried all smartphone OS from Blackberry, Windows 7, & the iPhone. This is comparable to an iPhone. The only drawback is that the upgrade software depends on the manufacturer, unlike Apple product where everybody can update their new release version of software if they desire to do so.
Samsung has completely disregarded the customers in relation to updating this device. Untimely and unreliable. The device for the most part isn't a bad device. Despite the screen has a tendency to get screen burn. Which goes for all samsung devices. I've already had mine replaced once. For the most part I really do enjoy the device. I just wish some more attention was paid to the customers regarding the device.
Cons: screen burn, sluggish at times, search button will go off by itself, lack of current updates, no flash for camera
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I owned this phone for a year and couldn't wait for the next revision, which seemed to take forever to hit the US. The battery life was ok, but not great, no flash camera, and the update from 2.1 to 2.2 took forever, also 2.3 never came. :( On the plus side, when I would lay my screen next to an iPhone, the iPhone users where like ooo, what phone is that. ;)
The samsung captivate is a good phone. I like all the different tasks i am allowed to do with it. Great display and apps. like a mini laptop in the palm of your hand.
I would give this phone high marks on everything if it would just stay powered on. It does not matter if you just take it off the charger or it only has 25% battery it will shut off all by itself.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, power shutdown
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This has been one of the best phones I've ever used!
I love that it is easy on your eyes, with the large and clear display. It replaced my Samsung BlackJack II, which I really liked. The signal strength is very good. The TASK MANAGER is a great tool to conserve the battery. It takes good pictures, so I don't carry my camera everywhere. But I wish it had a flash. I have had small children play with my phone and it is very durable. Texting & sending MMS is very easy, also adding contacts is simple. My phone will not update over the air, but I do it through the USB port with Samsung's site. Security is a concern I have.
