now if the software; froyo and Samsung's media hub were actually available I would give the phone top ratings. With Samsung now two Android versions behind I will just have to bite the bullet and pay full prices for an HTC.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: poor software support
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great phone, but where is Froyo?

Bought this phone with the understanding that Andriod 2.2 release was coming soon. Almost every android phone on the market is now at 2.2 or higher....why not the Captivate?
GPS is broken, there is no Adobe Flash support, the included Gmail client is epic fail and the new version of the Gmail client requires 2.2, I bought the Samsung docking stations for both my car and home, and BOTH of them have the audio ports disabled until 2.2 is released.
Very disapointed. Release 2.2 and this review might change.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, no 2.2 and many features disabled without it, samsung not forthcoming with updates, samsung won't tell anyone why 2.2 isn't out, samsung won't tell anyone when 2.2 will be availab

This is the best phone I have ever used. The features are easy to use and understand and the phone locks automatically after non-use. This is great so it will not accidently make a call when placed in your purse. The touchscreen is wonderful - forget the button pushing. Light weight and easy to handle. Excellent reception quality.
Colors, speed, and durability are amazing. The colors pop out enough to be seen in sharp sunlight or dark moonlight. The processor is an ongoing machine that runs apps. The feel is great on your hand and pocket.
Quite frankly, by owning one you are ahead of the curve. This phone will be competitive in the next 2 years, performance wise. I recommended it to a friend and he bought one with another wireless service. If you are unsure, simply head into the shop and try it out for a second. It'll shock you what a smartphone can do.
If you plan on buying one, take care of it like a child. Buy a screen protector, at least, and a body case. It'll protect your investment in the next couple years. I've protected mine and I'm proud of it so far!
This phone is nearly perfect, easy to use and very fast. GPS is terrible, and email client is a little shaky. If using this for navigation in the car, it is not for you. For heavy Internet and streaming audio/ video, it is outstanding.
