I like the Captivate in most repects except power consumption It tends to drain alot even when I'm not really doing alot with it. You think Samsung would have antisipated this and had better batttery R/D . Overall an excellent unit.
great phone for the one that likes to tinker with electronics.

overall this is a great phone. it has plenty of options to use on and with the phone. being a first time android user, there is a little learning curve. not all things are spelled out for you. other than the battery life this phone is awesome. keep the charger handy. i have put mine on the charger twice a day since ive had it. yes alot is just learning what the phone can do. id say after the learning curve i wont use as much battery life.
Great phone. Only issue I have is lack of a camera flash. Seems pretty ridiculous that features such as this aren't included in top-of-the-line phones. Was definitely not a deal breaker though.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Droid Update Delays

The phone itself is great. What bothers me is that some days I have to reboot the phone to re-activate the server? The biggest issue for me is that Samsung is delaying the Droid update 2.2 without giving an plausible explanation? The lack of update prevents me from installing certain Aps, such as Skype. Having to communicate with Europe a lot, that is of course a costly issue. If Samsung is not following through with the software updates they will certainly loose my business next time around.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, lack of software updates

i absolutely love this phone! the only reason i didn't give it a 5 on everything is b/c the battery doesn't last as long as i'd like but i think that's the case with most smartphones. it freezes up on me once in a while when i'm trying to extra multi-task...a million apps open at the same time & such :) otherwise...love it!---my brother and best friend bought it b/c i brag about it so much. definitely beats the iphone!
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Ive had this phone for a couple of months now and really like it. The battery drains pretty fast for me when in heavy use. No one has answer for long battery life yet. Don't like the way updates are done. Battery seems to take to long to charge. Other than that really like this phone. Would highly recommend.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Lightweight, features
Cons: 2.2 update, battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great specs, decent hardware, lost potential

When I bought this phone, I was certain that it was the greatest phone that I could purchase at the time. It had as good or better hardware specs than the iPhone 4. It came with the promise of the new hotness Android 2.2 (Froyo) update soon.
Reality bites.
First up, I have to give props where due: the screen is Brilliant. Everyone who borrows my phone comments on how exceptional the screen is. The phone is fast, although the stock 2.1 experience is laggy at times. The battery life is acceptable, and it feels good in the pocket.
Now, the bads: the build quality is atrocious. I have had my handset replaced once already because the screen came loose in one corner. The replacement has loose plastic panels, creaks and pops all the time. The stock software is bloated and slow. The often promised, perpetually delayed, now vapor-ware Froyo update has not been delivered. I understand product delays. As an engineer, I experience them frequently (sometimes causing them, too). However, Froyo has been available since MAY 2010. We were initially promised Froyo in September, then it was November, then it was by end of year 2010. Now, Samsung won't even commit to a date. I have given up hope that it will come to the Captivate at all.
My advice: DO NOT BUY. Buy the Nexus S if you must (although I would predict poor build quality), but don't buy one of these. It will be stuck on 2.1 forever.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, no updates
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
