This is one of the best smart phones out there. As a phone, it does what it's suppose to do. It has very good speed and very easy to use with the Android Operating System. Decent amount of storage space and good camera with HD video.
Great Phone! Battery Life is just like other Smart Phones.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color

No flash - what cell phone has no flash for the camera??? Full of AT&T garbage, which you can't remove. Ancient version of Android. No supported method of connecting to PC ?!?!?!?! Crippled so as not to work with Samsung's own connectivity product (Kies).
Beyond that .. it seems to make phone calls and has a reasonable web browser -- which appears to be crippled to disallow easy downloads.
Someone spent WAY too much time trying to turn this from an open platform to a proprietary, closed black box.
The screen is A+. Limited vision is a hazard of age, and the Samsung Captivate really aids in this department. The virtual keyboard, with rotating capability, also helps we who are less nimble as we age.
The only negative thus far is the lack of a user guide, or manual in the box. I am having a struggle getting to know specific tools of the phone ... for example, how to transfer my video files to my computer.
I will figure it out, it is just taking more effort than I think necessary. The phone is not cheap, and no user guide/manual in the box is not good.
I really like the screen, camera, speed and internet features though.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight, virtual keyboard, camera, web interface, good battery life
Cons: no manual included, too many proprietary applications running, no information on how to shut off applications, too much guess work without user guide
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am disappointed by samsung...

I gave up the Iphone to buy, this phone... because I always liked Samsung phones... but this time... I am not happy at all. first: there is no updates for this phone... it is stuck on 2.1 version. ...where 2.2 or 2.3? second: Skype doesn't work on 2.1 at all. and third: the most basic feature of even the basic phones. which is the Arabic language.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, no arabic language no skype
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This phone rocks. it is by far the best phoneI have ever owned. The only problem I have is with the carrier. The galaxy s series is awesome but the carrier limitations are lame.wish I could get what the phone was intended to have before carriers limited it.
