I purchased this phone a few months ago and it was great until i started installing apps. I did like everyone does when they get a new smartphone I customized it with apps, wallpapers, etc. After a couple of weeks it started shutting down by itself every hour or so. At&t's fix for it was to reset it to factory default, which did work until i wanted to add more apps. I've been slowly installing apps since and I thought I had it down to Pandora but that doesn't seem to be it.
I wouldn't recommend this phone until Samsung puts out a fix. There's plenty of forum posts on the subject but no one has a fix(Samsung). If Samsung doesn't fix the issue soon this will be my last Samsung phone.
I've had this phone less than a month but love it already. It's easy to use, very fast, has loads of apps available and I find myself using my laptop less and my Captivate more. Easy to set up my e-mail accounts and brouse the web. I would love to receive the Android 2.2 update and be able to access and use more apps.
This is my 3rd third phone in 20 days... The first 2 were from bath 1010. The first just quit working and wouldn't power on at all. The second, had issues where it would turn off on its own. This one is from batch 1011 and seems to be okay so far. If you start havin issues like those above, take it back and get a new one ASAP as the problems will just keep getting worse...
Also not to happy that this phone is so limited by what it can do... tethering is disabled and it still is on OS 2.1 (come on Samsung, they are already on 2.2 and getting ready for 2.3... you make the Nexus S that comes with tethering and OS 2.3)... If I would have known about these, probably would have waited and gotten a different product.
GPS also takes forever to get a lock and this is a known issue and Samsung released a "fix" that still hasn't worked... read about it on the internet...
Be careful when making a decision about getting this phone... fully research it first.
When I chose this phone over the iPhone 4, I did so against the recommendation of the store and several friends and family. I've been very happy with the available features and the form factor and physical attributes of the phone. My problem is with the software, battery life, and GPS. First, the upgrade schedule to 2.2 has been blown. The device often seems to get stuck, and will freeze for up to 20 seconds. During this time the device will not respond to any commands, and will not register haptic feedback. When making a phone call there is often a delay of up to 30 seconds between sending the call and the first ring. The GPS rarely works, and is generally unable to fix my location. Battery life is dismal. After 8 hours unplugged, and with little use I am below 50%, and after 12 hours the device is reminding me to recharge. I would expect a 2 month old phone to last longer between charges.
