How can you really recommend a protective device until it actually protects you (or fails to). We don't get a lot of electrical surges here in San Diego, but I've got two expensive tools and a computer in my workshop that would be horribly expensive to repair if a surge would wipe out the computers that made them work. I give 4 stars at this point because they appear rugged, have a big joule rating, and install solidly in my shop outlets. The rating goes to 5+ if I ever have a surge and they work; or the rating goes to zero if there is damage that Tripp lite doesn't cover.

Great little product. I bought it to protect my gas tankless water heater because the PC board fried. Bought another one to protect my other sensitive equipment. I like that I can take this outlet and plug it in just about anywhere.

I purchased the Tripp Lite surge protector to protect the controller board in a washer. It is built very sturdy in an metal housing. I like the line fault and protection present LED. I have used Tripp Lite before and remain pleased in the quality of their products.
