The unit when turning on the TV won't come on, unless you push another button. I've had the remote which was new too occasionally unable to turn up or down, or mute. I have to bang on the battery area and then it works. Batteries are brand new and occasionally it will show fully charged Batteries on the screen. Before I never had a problem with anything from Roku but now prices are higher and quality is not the same.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought this about a month ago to upgrade our early smart level TV to handle a newer streaming service requiring more modern smart TV technology & it has worked perfectly! Recommended it already to several other friends particularly retired friends on fixed incomes.

I have 5 TV’s and 5 Roku devices for each tv. The older ‘smart’ tv’s no longer get updates and therefore Roku provides the smarts. Even my older Roku sticks have had no problems installing new applications. Don’t pay extra for a smart tv that will eventually require a Roku stick to remain intelligent.

I bought this to use with my projector. The ease of use and all the available apps make for the perfect movie night while floating in the pool in the back yard.
