Great alternative to cable

After scaling our relationship with Xfinity just for wi-fi, we have come to rely on Roku for programming and love it. I have 3 Roku devices throughout our home and it's nice to turn off Roku in one room and continue watching in another.

Great, and easy interface, but the remote control is very cheaply made and the volume buttons on the side only works occasionally

Lots of channels, but lots of repetition

I am still getting used to my Roku device, and so far, it has been easy to use and broadcasts from the device have been smooth and crisp, equitable to broadcasts from cable. The biggest gripe, if that's the right word in this instance, is the repetition of live TV broadcasts from various apps, and the same selection of movies from apps. There's probably not much anyone can do about this, but it would be nice to see some variation. I still anticipate cutting the cable because I can subscribe to a bunch of apps for far less money than I am currently spending on cable.

Excellent, but the USB cable didn't work so well

I bought this unit to replace a 5 year old model that started to have problems. The new unit plays our channels flawlessly, but our TV would not provide sufficient power through the USB cable, which seemed too short to be totally useful. We eventually plugged the new unit into the old power supply, which solved the low/no power issue.

Does it’s job like it’s supposed to. Only problem is it constantly has problems connecting to my phones hot spot. The hot spot will be off and it will say it’s a possible internet source. It takes about five min to get it up and running.

Great WiFi connection and great picture quality

I used the 1st generation Google Chromecast for years which has casting function only and it works great until 1 of them (I own 2) recently died which I used the most. So I bought the newest generation HD version Chromecast that also came with free live TVs and more. It was painful to get it set up as part of the reason it took ages and a few tries to pick up my wifi but Roku was a breeze. Then, just using the new Chromecast for casting Youtube videos from my phone is terrible. It has tons of ads and don't auto stop in 5 secs like with the 1st generation does, plus there is a lot of lag time especially watching free channels. After a few days, the Wifi pick up got worst, it stops every few seconds of playing. I place the 1st generation side by side and switch between them where the 1st generation Chromecast has no issue. I returned the new Chromecast and bought the Roku and it's like day and night and even better than the 1st Gen Chromecast. No lag time at all, video is clear and great quality all time. So I can confirm that Roku has a much stronger pick up signal with my Wifi which locates in my basement appx 58 ft away. As for live or free TV, movie and more, it has more and longer ads which is expected and it doesn't bother me since they are free. You can always subscribe and pay for other streaming services and perhaps that way you can avoid ads...not sure.
