Bought this recently and it works quite well. I upgraded the RAM and SSD which was a pretty straight forward process, although they seem to have used plastic clips along with the screws to hold the bottom panel on, which makes it a pain to remove (there's a clip between the usb port and the smart card slot on the right which especially annoying).
The keyboard is fantastic, as expected, and the touchpad is nicer than my previous thinkpads. I thought the 300 nit screen might be too dim, but honestly it's good enough for most use-cases as long as you don't use it outdoors in bright sunlight; if you're looking for a better screen you're probably best off with an external monitor anyways.
I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on this and had absolutely no issues with it; all drivers worked well.
Port-wise, it's great to have an ethernet port so I don't have to deal with terrible adapters with bad Linux drivers, but it'd be nice to have a full-size SD card slot instead of the microSD; all my cameras still use SD cards and while it's easy to use an adapter from microSD to SD, it's harder to go the other way around. Obviously I knew this when I ordered, but it'd be nice to bring regular SD card slots back.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Honestly a well deserved upgrade and a very capable power balanced machine. Having owned previous devices without dedicated processing power, this was a much deserved and welcome upgrade. Upgraded from the X1 Carbon Gen 6. This devices gives all the capabilities of a very powerful machine, is very upgradeable and is ultralight! A must. P.s. the screen is gorgeous!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Lenovo continues to impress with it's professional lines. I purchased this for an engineer at our company who wanted portability and some light CAD ability when necessary, but with lots of RAM and speed. The mid-range machine gave us exactly what we needed in every regard and even has a reasonable battery life.
We opted to upgrade the RAM, something many laptops can't do these days, and the internals to the machine only further impressed me. Solid heat pipe and blower unit, swapable SSD, and the single RAM slot that I threw an additional chip into. Plus, the clips that held the case together make for a very firm and structural feel to the unit that you just don't get in some other brands. Great attention to detail and refinement.
