Betrayal at the Neibolt House: The Evil of Pennywi

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you’re a fan of Stephen King’s It and enjoy the chaos of Betrayal at House on the Hill, then Betrayal at the Neibolt House: The Evil of Pennywise is a must-try. This standalone game takes the classic Betrayal formula and plunges it into the eerie world of Derry, Maine, where the Losers’ Club faces off against the shape-shifting terror known as Pennywise.
What’s the Game About?
In this game, 3–6 players explore the infamous Neibolt House, uncovering creepy rooms and items while trying to avoid Pennywise’s deadly tricks. As in the original Betrayal, players build the house tile by tile, triggering events and collecting items. Eventually, the Haunt begins, and one player becomes the traitor—this time, it’s Pennywise himself, and he’s out to get you.
What Works Well
Immersive Theme: The game does an excellent job capturing the unsettling atmosphere of It. From the creepy room tiles to the Pennywise miniatures, the theme is strong and engaging.
High Replayability: With multiple Haunts and scenarios, each playthrough feels fresh. The game offers a variety of challenges and twists, keeping players on their toes.
Easy to Learn: The rules are straightforward, making it accessible for both newcomers and seasoned gamers. The game balances strategy and randomness, ensuring a fun experience for all.
What Could Be Better
Component Quality: Some players have noted that the materials, such as the character dials and miniatures, could be of higher quality.
Rule Clarity: Like the original Betrayal, some of the Haunt rules can be a bit unclear, requiring players to interpret scenarios on the fly.
Who Will Enjoy It?
This game is perfect for fans of horror-themed board games and those who appreciate a good twist. If you enjoy storytelling and the thrill of betrayal, Betrayal at the Neibolt House offers a unique and exciting experience.
Final Thoughts
Betrayal at the Neibolt House: The Evil of Pennywise is a fantastic addition to the Betrayal series. It brings the terror of Pennywise to life in a way that’s both fun and frightening. Whether you’re a fan of It or just love a good horror board game, this one is worth checking out.

Expansion pack is worth it
on June 8, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The game was fun. We played with 5 people total. Set up was easy. Instructions relatively easy. There was a mistake on the cards- Instructions say “strange dust “ the card says “a vial of dust”. The game odds well made so it will last quite awhile. This expansion pack was a fun storyline, adding to the whole element of the game

creepy twist on a classic
on June 20, 2025

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, Betrayal: The Evil of Pennywise is such a cool and creepy twist on the classic Betrayal at House on the Hill. If you’re a fan of It or just love horror in general, this expansion totally delivers. The vibe is darker, more intense, and obviously super unsettling thanks to Pennywise lurking around.
The storylines are all themed around Derry and the world of It, so you really feel like you’re in that universe while playing. The tension ramps up fast, and when the haunt kicks in… it gets chaotic in the best way. It still has that same exploration-and-then-betrayal format, but everything feels more sinister and cinematic.
Just a heads up—this is an expansion, so you do need the 3rd edition base game to play it. But if you already have that and enjoy spooky, story-driven games, this one is totally worth adding to your shelf.

Based on the “it” books/movie

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Anything’s inspired by Stephen king books is not a disappointment. This game is good, although I like the original betrayal ones more. Easy to assemble, high quality and durable. Well packaged as most card games are! A bit advanced for younger kids but overall a great game to play with adults.
